Dickinson High junior Helen Ovando is Boys, Girls Club of Hudson County's Youth of the Year

Funny, smiley, helpful and lovable.

These are some the words this year?s Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County?s Youth of the Year Helen Ovando uses to describe herself.

A junior at Dickinson High School in Jersey City, Helen said she is proud of the honor.

?It means a lot to me, especially because I have people looking up to me and congratulating me,? Helen said.

Helen was selected for the honor by a committee, based on her record of involvement at the Boys and Girls Club, as well as criteria used by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, according to Janet Wallach, the club?s director of program development and teen services.

Helen, a model student, said she plans to be the first person in her family to attend college. She has her sights set on Montclair State University and plans to become a social worker.
