2 Jersey City men nabbed as suspects in early-morning beating of man on Washington Street in Hoboken

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

HOBOKEN - Two men were arrested and charged after they attacked a 29-year-old man on Washington Street early yesterday morning, police said.

Robert M. Romero, 24, of Jersey City, was charged with aggravated assault after he punched and kicked the victim in front of 505 Washington St., police said.

Michael Romero, 43, also of Jersey City, was charged with a DWI and hindering apprehension in relation to the incident, reports said.

Responding to the scene at 12:53 a.m., police found the heavily intoxicated victim had a swollen jaw and blood coming from his mouth, reports said.

A witness told police that one of the attackers sped off in a black Mercedes SUV northbound on Washington Street.

Based on a description of the man and the car, police stopped Michael Romero at Eighth and Washington streets and arrested him, reports said, adding that Romero was uncooperative.

Cops found Robert Romero walking along Washington Street and the victim positively identified him as the man who assaulted him, reports said.

It was not clear from reports if the suspects are related.
