Jersey City police say 13-year-old had loaded gun and both he and an 18-year-old had cocaine packaged to sell

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

A 13-year-old boy carrying a gun in a holster and vials of suspected cocaine in his hand was arrested along with an 18-year-old man by officers responding to a domestic violence call in Greenville Monday afternoon, officials said.

The Neptune Avenue boy and Eric Scott, 18, of Wegman Parkway, were arrested about 4:30 p.m. at Martin Luther King Drive and Van Nostrand Avenue and charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession with intent to distribute near a school and near public property, reports said.

The boy was additionally charged with weapons offenses after police found he was carrying a 9mm semiautomatic handgun loaded with nine rounds, including one hollow-point bullet, reports said.

Officers responded to the residence after getting a 911 call from a woman there saying her ex-boyfriend had threatened to shoot her, reports said.

When police arrived at the third-floor apartment, Scott walked out carrying 20 vials of suspected cocaine and the boy was right behind him carrying six vials, reports said.

Both suspects ran but were caught after a brief chase and a pat down revealed the teen was carrying the loaded gun, reports said. The boy was processed and taken to the Hudson County Youth House in Secaucus, reports said.
