Cops: One of NYC's finest collared for shoving Jersey City cop

by Charles Hack
The Jersey Journal
Sunday September 14

One of New York's finest was arrested early this morning after pushing a Jersey City cop in the chest in the parking lot of a Downtown Jersey City bar, police said.

Michael Velazquez, Jr., 23, of Tompkins Avenue, in Brooklyn, N.Y. was charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and failure to disperse, reports said.

Jersey City Police responded around 3 a.m. to a disturbance where a group had gathered at a parking lot of the Sand Bar on Marin Boulevard, reports said.

The man yelled that he was a police officer and did not have to comply with the officers' demands to disperse, before shoving the Jersey City cop, reports said.

After being restrained, the New York cop was taken to the East District Precinct on 7th Street for processing, where he continued to be verbally abusive and it was determined that he was indeed a New York City police officer, reports said.

A spokesman from the New York Police Department said that he had no record regarding the incident, but any uniformed officers arrested are suspended without pay for 30 days pending an investigation.
