On Friday, at approximately 6:30pm, a large dog near the gazebo in Van Vorst Park bit a woman on the arm, breaking the skin. The victim describes the dog as elbow height (almost the size of a Great Dane), light brown, and very muscular. The woman walking the dog is said to be olive skin, either white, Hispanic, or possibly Asian. She was wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, has shoulder length brown hair, and is approximately 5?-6?. The victim says she has seen this person and the dog in the park before. After the attack, the handler ran out of the park through the York St. entrance without giving any information and saying she would return after she took the dog home. The handler never returned to say whether the dog had its shots or to offer financial help with medical bills. The bite to the victim?s arm has so far resulted in an emergency visit to the hospital and she has had to start a series of rabies shots, since there is no information as to the dog?s health.
The police are asking, that if anyone knows this handler, dog, or witnessed any of this, to please call P.O. Dina Reilly at the East Precinct ? 201 547-5410. Thank you
