Many people in the neighborhood were skeptical when it was decided that a football field would be built in Washington Park, right on Palisade. The group that did the building promised that, although they would be cutting down a stand of really old trees, they would do a lot of planting and put in a park with benches and paths. I was one of the skeptics who was pleasantly surprised to see that they kept their word: there really are beautiful plantings along Palisade and Paterson Plank, and they have installed benches and either fountains or planters and nice pavement. However, the park is still surrounded by chain link fence, even though it looks finished. Does anyone know what's holding up the opening of the park to the public?
