They do sell fresh fish. I have bought tuna steak and tilapia. A little on the pricey side but fresh.

I've picked up steaks there a few times and they were pretty good. I have seen seafood there, but I am not necessarily willing to trust seafood from a place without a dedicated seafood counter... I don't know why.

I don't think I've seen fresh fish there, but they do have some basic meats like chicken breasts. Nice place if you need gourmet stuff in a pinch (found mushroom broth there when I couldn't find it at Shop Rite or the Korean groceries downtown). Pricing is pretty much on par with Whole Foods. What I really like there are the made-to-order sandwiches at the deli counter.

I bought prepared food there a few days ago: salmon and grilled chicken. Well for the price I imagined they would be at least good. They were both raw inside, not just undercooked but raw. The service is really slow, and by the service I mean the servers... For such a big place it doesn't have much to offer. Except for the pastries.

They may be friendly, but there are too many slow and/or brain-dead people working here to succeed, especially behind the deli counter. I'd rather have a surly person quickly make me a sandwich. I can't imagine what a mess it would be if they ever got busy. I think they won't ever have to worry about that, though.

I have to point out that this place is bigger than Liberty Towers Gourmet. And I rather shop here than at Liberty Towers Gourmet. They are more friendly, attentive and helpful here.

Hudson Greene Market has prepared food that you can buy and heat up at home. They have fresh chicken and some meat. They also sell Boars Head cold cuts. Today I saw some rotisserie chicken you can buy and heat up at home. Everyday I see something new here.

I've tried the chicken marsala and chicken francaise at the hot buffet and I liked it. The buffet is very limited. $6.77 a pound for hot food. Very few items. Maybe they are testing the market first.

The groceries are similar to Liberty Towers and Downtown Pharmacy. Most are too pricey for me. I would rather walk to Target to buy Silk Soymilk at $2.99 a carton than pay $4.60 here, unless there is a blizzard. But I find the prices of fruits and vegetables very reasonable. Bananas are 69 cents a pound.

Hudson Greene Market is actually owned by the same people that owns Downtown Pharmacy at Liberty Towers. They have always been opened to suggestions. They have ordered things for me when I asked them. One of the guys at Downtown Pharmacy is now managing Hudson Greene Market. I wouldn't hesitate to make complaints or suggestions to him.

I went over and looked at the salad bar/hot/cold bar. I was not impressed. As someone who works in Exchange Pl, I probably will rarely go there-- unless I need something to buy to make dinner. I am guessing this store is more valuable as a grocery store and less as a take out food option.

I agree, way to similar to Liberty Towers Gourmet. Which leads to the following concern, will they put each other out of business trying to compete, putting the area back to square 1 where we have no grocery options?

Time will tell...

The place is very large. They have a lot of groceries, refrigerated and frozen foods, organic foods, fresh produce, etc. The prices are what I would call 'reasonable'. They have hot and cold prepared foods, sandwiches, cakes, pastries, a small hot bar, a salad bar (you tell them what toppings you want), heat-up-at-home foods. There is seating in the windows along Grand Street. Everyone is very, very friendly. A super-easy place to stop on the way home after work. They're open until 10 during the week, and I think 8 on the weekends.

It seems pretty ambitious but I certainly wish them well. They certainly have my business.

Welcome to Paulus Hook!

The selection is slightly greater than Liberty Towers, but yeah, too similar. I don't know what it is with these stores all selling the same no-name organic brands. I also ordered a tuna sandwich on a plain bagel and it me three attempts and three people to finally get it through to them what I wanted, so there will be growing pains. The sandwich was only $4.50, though, and a Snapple was only 1.25, so that is pretty good compared to the other places in town.

I briefly walked through today and it looked great, although there is no butcher and thus Paulus Hook continues to lack a proper place to get chicken and meat. They do have limited, prepackaged chicken and steaks but the labels don't offer much info. I let an employee know and hopefully it improves.
