Call Theresa at 212 920 5585. She's a mobile cat groomer- and works in Jersey City. I got her name from Fussy Friends. She's very good. My cat (who is 13 and hates her backside touched), needed a grooming 'back there'. Theresa did a good job, and most importantly, did it at my house.

we use Adam from Whiskers and Leo as our cat sitter. He does a great job. Feeds and scoops (obviously), but leaves the house clean and provides text updates.

I have a similar situation, foshizigity. I have a rescue kitty that absolutely cannot be dropped off at a groomers waiting in a kennel. She's so afraid, so goes into shock or gets violent.

I highly recommend Aussie Pet Mobile. They have a mobile grooming van, with full washing and grooming services. They'll park by your house, (or as close as they can get to it in downtown JC), pick up your pet, service them right away and bring them back to your door. The owner of the franchise, Eric, and his family of groomers are fantastic--very caring and sensitive. His number is: 201 815-1787. (If I'm not allowed to post the number and it gets cut by moderator, just PM me)

While we're on the subject of cats, can anyone recommend a sitter? Thanks.

ditto. would never choose a long-haired cat on purpose. what a chore! mine seems happier with short hair, especially in the summertime.

+1 and not having her hair all over the house isn't a bad thing either.

It's almost impossible to cut their skin with the clippers. Even harder if you use on of the spacer guides. I tired it by pressing it hard against my skin and nothing happened.

This is exactly what we did for our kitty. We think she is a Norwegian forest cat and she has the triple layer coat. We used to take her to Groomingdales once a year for the lion cut, but this year we decided to save some money and buy a set of clippers. $40 at Target and an hour later we had a shaved kitty.

Why don't you get a Wahl groomer with attachments and do it yourself? It's SO stressful to take a pet to be groomed. Also, brush your long-haired cat every day and it won't get knots.
Why did you pick a long-haired cat if you were going to shave it's fur? (Just saying)

oh, wait a tick.. i can't just take him in during an afternoon and let them groom him with me present?

does anyone know of a place (i'm willing to pay extra for it!!!) that i can come with him and not have to leave him alone? i think i can not leave him alone again. bad experience. and someone cutting off part of his ear is not acceptable. (i won't be going to that place you mentioned). I don't mind paying more, I just would like an idea of what it will cost, and I'm certainly willing to pay more as long as he is well taken care of

i'm definitely considering the lion cut. thank you for your suggestions!!

I have a seal point himalayan that is groomed 3 times a year. I have tried just about everyone in Hoboken and Jersey City and hands down..Pam from Groomingdales has given her the best cuts. Robin from Hoboken Animal Hospital comes in 2nd tied with Cozy Cuts in Hoboken. She gets a lion cut.

You can have your cat shaved into what they call a "Lion Cut". I believe the fur on their head and feet are left long and their bodies are shaved. My girlfriend has a cat who gets this each summer and it helps so much with shedding. You also get a break from the 2x daily brushings. She never had a problem with her cat freaking out at the groomer, however I am sure this does happen. I know the groomer at the Hoboken Animal Hospital does these and is very highly regarded. (I don't know anyone in JC, sorry)

I bring my persian to Paws in Chelsea, on 24th st, between 6th and 7th avenues.

He's an incredibly chill cat, but I've seen them carefully wrangle the more hyper kitties. He's never gotten so much as a scratch (unlike at Canis Minor, where they took off a chunk of his ear and didn't even acknowledge it.)

Paws isn't cheap: between $80 and $90. So worth it, especially in the summertime.

We brought our Maine Coon to Groomingdale's. I'm pretty sure that dogs are their main business, which makes sense but they do cats as well. We asked for the full blown wash and cut since he was developing knots that we couldn't keep under control. They couldn't give him the full treatment as the groomer told as he started "flipping out", which we thought strange because he's ridiculously easy-going. Either way, he came back soft and clean and all the knots had been removed (shaved).

They will probably ask you to drop off on a weekday in the early am as we were asked to do so the groomer can "evaluate" how the cat responds to grooming in a quiet environment.

I have a long-haired kitten. He's awesome, but he sheds like mad. I comb his fur two or three times a day, and am constantly sweeping up cat fur and vaccuuming the apartment. I am wondering if there is a cat groomer in JC? Does anyone have experience dealing with long haired kitties in the summer time? Should I take him to get him groomed and what does that entail exactly? And does anyone know what the cost is like?

Thanks.
