It depends on the fabric. I don't see why not. When i was a kid my mom would always do that with sofa's. As long as it is not chenille or velvet. You may want to do a test area that you can't see and make sure that it doesn't damage the fabric. If you do this yearly i would suggest investing in a steam cleaner. they are only about 200-300 dollars and they worked well in the mid 90's they should be better now.

I want to get one but it wouldn't be worth the cost.

also if your carpet is wool and not nylon(most are but a lot of homes have wool rugs... if it pills a lot then it is most likely wool) check the tag to see what it is. You need to be careful and read the instructions.

Can I use that for my sofa too? I love thinking about doing things myself more - I appreciate the board for this. Why hire someone when I could do it? I could even rent a powerwasher! How empowering is that??

Any recommendations on a carpet and upholstery cleaner to come in to the home and clean? I want to get a head start on my spring cleaning....yah me.

I need to get my couch slipcover clean and want to take it to a drycleaner that knows what they're doing. Normally I take my clothes to National Cleaners. Any recommendations on where to take a twill couch slipcover?
