Quick construction question. I'm at the beginning stage of planning a basement remodel that will involve a partition wall (non load-bearing). I don't think so, but to be sure before I do much more planning; does anyone know if local codes require "floating" the walls in the basement?

The existing walls down there don't seem to be floated. They are all standard wood 2x4 framing on a poured concrete slab, nailed tight to both floor and ceiling joists. The slab has a few very old hairline cracks but doesn't seem to heave at all.
