There should be a gas valve at the point where the dryer is connected to the gas line. shut that off and you are free to disconnect the dryer safely. Then hire a handyman to do the rest, you can show him what to do to reconnect the gas once he is back there.

If you dont want to touch the gas (makes some people really nervous), then hire a plumber (some handymen will not touch the gas) and tell them about the bracket problem.

Yeah, we tried that but the space is too small and because it's a gas connection we're a bit concerned about what sorta havoc we may create.

Can you purchase the bracket and attach it yourself? I would think it is just a contraption to hold the two together, so as long as you can get behind the units with enough space to work you should be fine. You could always call someone to do it if you find that you can't but at least you will know exactly what you need done...i.e. plumber or handyman.

I see recommendations on here for new appliance installation and repairing of existing, but our situation is a bit different. We have a dryer on top of a washer with no stacking/brackets connecting them and therefore the dryer starts to fall off the washer when in use (aka, bad installation).

From calling several places, they don't support that (it's not broken and it's not new/under warranty). Someone suggested calling a plumber so I will try that - anyone else have any suggestions of who would do this work?
