Operation Sail 2012 is HERE and tall ships from all over the world are arriving in New York Harbor. Publicity for the event has been rather thin so you may not have heard about it. The Parade Of Ships will take place tomorrow Wednesday the 23rd . All the tall ships and Navy ships will parade up and down the harbor and Hudson River starting at the Varanzano bridge early in the morning at 8:00 A.M. and proceeding up to the George Washington bridge and then back down the river. It looks like this will take all day. Military aircraft will fly over at noon.
The OpSail New York website is at: http://www.opsail.org/popup-new-york As you can see the ships will be open for public tours from Thursday on through the weekend. The last Operation Sail was in 2000 so this event is fairly rare and you should take the time to check out the visiting tall ships. Portside New York, a Brooklyn based Not for Profit has cooked up this handy PDF guide to visiting the ships in Red Hook Brooklyn: http://www.portsidenewyork.org/PortSi ... -Bklyn-Complete-Guide.pdf If any tall ships are going to be tied up in Jersey City I have not heard of it but please comment if you know of any.
