Thank you BIKE JC, the J.C.P.D., various city agencies, and to all the riders who made this tour a terrific success. Jersey City made history with their first bicycle tour. Lets hope this will put J.C. on the map as a bike friendly town. The tour went well over 600 riders and no casualties. I bet next year's tour will rival all others, I can't wait.

Great event! Thanks so much to all the people who put this together! I am already looking forward to the 2nd annual! Another thing that would be great to see would be a summer streets/cyclovia event similar to the Park Avenue closing that NYC has had for the past few years. What would the best street to do it? Kennedy Blvd?

I was worried about that too! Next time I'm definitely in.

I'm surprised to hear it was so slow - I guess with so many people. The only reason why I didn't join in was because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep the pace, I'm not a serious rider or anything - now I know for next time.

And I'm happy to hear the "missed connection" worked out - at least to the point of you 2 finding each other. Good luck!

Thank you so much to those who organized this! I really enjoyed riding through JC and with a large group of people (which I had never done before). Yes, it was a little slow at times, but I had a great time!

After six months of hard work, the Ward Tour was a total success. We originally were hoping for a 100-150 riders which ballooned into about 600 registered participants. Will have exact numbers later this week. Best part was the horde of bikers coming back via Montgomery Street (video coming soon) to Exchange Place. Look forward to actually riding the Tour next time as some of us had to stay behind for set up. Hope everyone had a blast!

If interested in participating in future events, join and follow us via Twitter, Facebook and Google Groups available via Bike JC.org

Again, thanks to the JCPD, Dancing Tony for scheduling One and Nines and the Subway Surfers, Grove Street Bicycles, all the participants, sponsors and of course, all the Bike JC volunteers!

It was an awesome experience! Huge kudos to all the organizers and JC PD! I am so impressed how smoothly everything went.
Sure, could have ridden with faster speed, but that is kind of a mute point for such a wonderful experience.

Nice ride. But slooooooooooooow was an understatement.

You don't have to have a race at 20mph...
But you could at least make it to 10 !
5 is just ridiculous.

Hopefully the next iteration they will work out the kinks and have an adequate pace.

Excellent pictures!! Thanks so much for sharing. The weather was excellent--thank goodness no PM showers.

I uploaded some movies of the Grove Street Bike guys showing off their BMX tricks.

Also, this is going to sound more like a craigslist missed connections than a jclist.com post, but could the guy wearing a blue shirt and dark blue shorts (or maybe black shorts?) that rode near me for part of the ride (close to the front) and also parked his bike near mine on the waterfront pm me? I'm a girl with brown hair and was wearing a white shirt, black shorts, and a backpack.

I second that---huge thanks! And thanks to the JCPD for helping keep everyone safe.

I heard someone (who appeared to be friends with the organizers) say there were 600 people there. The original plan was to cap it at 400.

Great turnout today. Looked like at least 500 people of all ages. JCPD did a great job with traffic and cheering folks on. Grandmas were clapping from windows, corner boys were smiling at some of the different bikes, and everywhere you looked somebody was taking pictures. Good vibes all around.

To the folks who spent the time and energy organizing this - Great job and thanks!

I might try it. Haven't been on the bike since last year, so it's dust and pump for me too... but 10 miles with a BIG hill climb will be daunting.
But nobody says I can't go forth and back on Grand Street...without climbing that first L O N G hill to Lincoln Park. And then it's up up and up all the way to Griffith Street.

Perhaps clipping off the Heights completely and going from the intersection of Kennedy and Newark straight downtown on Newark picking up the crowd again at Palisade Avbe. might be a 7 or 8 mile ride...
more tenable.
