City Challenge Race obstacle course coming to Jersey City, seeking volunteers

Volunteers are needed for a new obstacle course and race coming to Jersey City.

City Challenge Race is coming to JC on May 17 when the city will be transformed into an exciting 15-obstacle course with walls to get over, water jugs to carry, ropes to climb, monkey bars and much more.

The event is inspired by events like Tough Mudder and Spartan Race, but chooses concrete and skylines over water, dirt and barbed wire. While racers will stay cleaner than their muddy counterparts, organizers say they will still be pushed to their physical limits.

Racers can register for $85 before May 4, and $95 after, and help raise money for the Jersey City Department of Recreation or the local chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure while doing so.

Volunteers are also needed for the event to work one of three shifts: 4 to 9 a.m., 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., or noon to 4 p.m. They will receive admission to any race, a custom volunteer T-shirt and a community service letter.

City Challenge Race will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Jersey City. An event will also be held in Hoboken in September; it started in the Mile Square City in October 2013.
