Former Jersey City schools superintendent’s ‘boat check’ up for vote by ed board again

After putting it off in February, Jersey City school board members once again are being asked to approve a roughly $200,000 “boat check” to former Superintendent Franklin Walker, who retired in December after 48 years in the school system.

The board of education, who will vote on April 28, tabled the whole lot of sick time and vacation payout approvals when the resolution included Walker the first time around, according to board documents. It is unclear why the school board decided to table the monthly check-the-box resolution that is routinely approved because the payouts are mandated by contract.
