Jersey City school board member alleges shenanigans regarding new teacher contract

JERSEY CITY — The proposed new contract for Jersey City’s public school teachers has led to dramatic allegations from a school board member who said he was purposely left out of the negotiations over the new deal.

Matt Schapiro, who has a hostile relationship with local teachers union officials, is accusing the board of acting illegally and unethically by approving the terms of the new contract even though most board members have conflicts that Schapiro said should have barred them from reviewing the deal, which teachers ratified on Tuesday.
