One of my favorite lines said to me by someone at N.I.D., "Oh, I know who you're talking about. I once got an arrest warrant issued for him." He seemed genuinely proud!

Anyone miss this code enforcement group ? The NID was the Neighborhood Improvement District; they were part of the DPW then within their own and then part of the DPW now they are defunct. I thought their purpose was served well. They were accessible either on foot patrol or on bicycles throughout the neighborhood, had phone voice mail, appeared at block association meetings, created work orders for other city agencies hence paper trails, and gave out $100 violation tickets with pictures to homeowners who showed disregard for city ordinances. I thought having a city agency being paid with taxpayer dollars and was attainable within the community they patrolled was money well spent. Since their demise, areas of Jersey City have dwindled to being sloppier. I wish they would bring them back.
