A 20-year-old Jersey City resident has been identified as the man who attempted to drive himself to the hospital after being shot early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Amir Pleasant was shot on Dwight Street near Garfield Avenue just before 5 a.m. Residents in the area reported hearing shots fired and watched a car flee the scene, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

About a half hour later, police found the car that was seen leaving the shooting scene had crashed on Grand Street near Jersey Avenue, right in front of Jersey City Medical Center. The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, Suarez said.

Pleasant, who drove about three miles before crashing, was shot in the chest and his death has been ruled a homicide, authorities said.

No one has been arrested in connection with his death.

The fatal shooting was the first of two murders in Jersey City this weekend.

Albanelis Vidal De Larosa, 51, was found dead wrapped in a blanket on Reservoir Avenue Saturday morning. Her ex-boyfriend, Miguel Angel Cabrera Romero has been charged with murder.

There have been 11 homicides in Hudson County this year, nine of those have been in Jersey City.

Anyone with information about Pleasant's death can contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office at by calling 201-915-1345 or leaving an anonymous tip online.

A man was shot multiple times on Ocean Avenue and died after crashing his car trying to get the hospital this morning, sources told The Jersey Journal.

The man was shot in the head and the chest at roughly 5 a.m., said the source, who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the investigation.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a man was found with gunshot wounds in a car at Grand Street and Jersey Avenue and he was pronounced dead at the Jersey City Medical Center.

The location where the man crashed was few a hundred yards from the JCMC.

The fatal shooting comes on the same morning a body was found wrapped in a bag on Reservoir Avenue in the Heights. If both fatalities are determined to be homicides, they would be the seventh and eighth in Jersey City this year and ninth and 10th in Hudson County in 2017.
