Many years ago, I substituted at PS #3 when they had trailers on Bright St. The same thing happened, it was considered, then no big deal. The students did not panic.

Man entered kindergarten trailer at Jersey City school, taken to hospital

By Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal
on September 12, 2014 at 4:33 PM, updated September 12, 2014 at 4:34 PM

A man who entered a trailer that houses kindergarten classes at a Jersey City school this morning was taken into custody but was not charged with a crime, a spokesman for the Jersey City Police Department.

According to a statement issued by the Jersey City Public Schools, the man entered the "portable classroom" at Fred W. Martin School 41 -- the Martin Center for the Arts -- prompting teachers to immediately evacuate all of the students into the main building.

After being notified of the incident shortly after 11:20 a.m., police responded to the Wilkinson Avenue elementary school where they found the man, clothed, in a bathroom and arrested him, said Maryann Dickar, a spokeswoman for the Jersey City Public Schools.

No children were injured and the students continued their school day in the main building, Dickar added.

Bob McHugh, a spokesman for the Jersey City Police Department, said the man was not injured in the incident.

However, the man was taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health for observation and evaluation, said Mark Rabson, a spokesman for the hospital. Rabson declined to provide details of what the man was being evaluated for.

Dickar did not immediately return phone calls for further comment on the incident.
