The state Division of Consumer Affairs doled out $31,000 in fines to five health clubs across New Jersey, including two in Jersey City and Hillsborough that allegedly failed to provide refunds to consumers who properly canceled their memberships, officials announced today. Bally Total Fitness of Greater New York, which operates a facility on Bergen Avenue in Jersey City, was fined $10,500 for its alleged failure to provide a refund, as well as other violations. Meanwhile, Hillsborough Racquet & Fitness was also assessed a civil penalty of $5,500 for the same infractions, the office of the state Attorney General announced. More
