2 people taken to Jersey City hospital with gunshot wounds: hospital official
By Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal on July 15, 2014 at 5:42 PM Two people were taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health this afternoon with gunshot wounds, a hospital official confirmed. Mark Rabson, spokesman for the Medical Center, said the two victims arrived at around 4:50 p.m. and are currently in stable condition. According to police radio transmissions, a person was shot at 78 Fremont St. just before 4:30 p.m., while another transmission indicated a second person had been shot. There is currently a heavy police response near the Booker T. Washington public housing complex on Colden Street, near Fremont Street. Both the Jersey City and Port Authority police departments are on scene. One resident of the housing complex, who declined to give her name, said she was watching TV inside her home when she heard four or five gunshots. "You get tired of this stuff happening down there. It's crazy, there's children down here," the woman said. Another resident, who also did not give his name, said "it was like rapid fire." The shootings come on the same day that Jersey City police shot a man who attacked an officer inside his marked vehicle this morning, and two days after Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago was shot and killed outside a Communipaw Avenue Walgreens. Journal staff writer Julie Kayzerman contributed to this report. JJ Link
