Here is more to the story from I don't Believe any of it. jj

Residents of a Jersey City home where a 17-year-old was shot in the face early Sunday said tonight that a 16-year-old was showing a gun to other juveniles at the house when the weapon accidentally fired.

A bullet blew through the 17-year-old?s cheek, according to residents at the two-family home on Danforth Avenue near Old Bergen Road.

The 17-year-old remained hospitalized today in the Intensive Care Unit at Jersey City Medical Center and was listed in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.

The 16-year-old, a friend of a minor who lives at the Danforth house, has been charged with aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, police said.

The shooting occurred around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Two adults at the house tonight said they were sleeping when the 16-year-old started showing the gun to a group of kids in the kitchen.

Ernest Rose, 44, said he was awoken by a gun blast.

"These kids sneak other kids in their house when their parents are sleeping," Rose said.

Rose and his 24-year-old daughter disputed initial reports that the 17-year-old and the 16-year-old were playing Russian Roulette.

"Kids make mistakes," said the 24-year-old, who didn?t want her name printed. "I was scared. I didn?t know what to do. I?ve never been in that situation before."

The woman said a friend at the house drove the 17-year-old to the hospital.

The 24-year-old said she visited the teen at the hospital and he is talking and appeared on the road to recovery.

The 17-year-old is the boyfriend of a relative who was at the house on Sunday, the residents said.

The 16-year-old told police he found the gun in a vacant lot, according to police reports.

The alleged teen shooter initially fled the scene, but at 3:30 a.m. he returned with his legal guardian and turned himself over to officers, police reports said.

Immediately following the shooting, the 16-year-old placed the .38-caliber weapon in a garbage can across the street from the apartment building. Police did not find the weapon, reports said.

Police spokesman Stan H. Eason said tonight the shooting remains under investigation. ?

JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- A 17 year old boy is recovering after he was shot in the face during a game of Russian roulette.

JERSEY CITY

The shooting happened along Danforth Street in Jersey City. Police say a 15 year old says he found a gun, and that's when he and his friend decided to play a potentially deadly game.

The younger teen in the Russian roulette shooting has been charged as a minor.

The injured 17-year-old is recovering at Jersey City Medical Center.

Parents in the neighborhood say the kids need more to do, and that active kids are less likely to engage in harmful acts.

Dozens of parents brought their kids to splash around at one of the city's 3 public pools on Monday, but they say there's room for improvement when it comes to giving teenagers something to do in the summer.

"Back when I was coming up, the Boys and Girls Club was affordable. Now, it's so expensive," Lucretia Jones, Jersey City resident, said.

"It's like, 'Oh school's out. Kick 'em out on the street. Whoever comes back in September, cool.' We have people wanting to feed dogs and cats, but no one wants to train kids, teach them skills," resident John Anthony said.

The new mayor says he is addressing the safety concerns and activities of his city's youth.

"We're expanding after-school programs, summer jobs - stuff we will do immediately," Jersey City Mayor-elect Steven Fulop said.
