JERSEY CITY ? A bone that Jersey City police said may be human remains was found on the Jersey City waterfront this morning, authorities said.
The 2.5-inch bone was found by a passerby at the foot of Washington Street at about 10 a.m., Jersey City police spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez said. The bone was quickly brought to the state Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Newark to be tested, he added.
Martinez said that any time a bone is found that the police have to treat it as if it may be human.
A team from the police department's Bureau of Criminal Investigation responding to the waterfront after the bone was found was involved in a two-vehicle crash. A police officer and the woman driving the other car were both treated at the scene and then brought to the Jersey City Medical Center, police said.JJ
