JERSEY CITY ? A 16-year veteran of the Jersey City police force was found dead in her home Friday night, officials confirmed this morning.
The body of Olympia Sumter, 38, was discovered by a relative around 9 p.m. inside the police officer's residence on Woodlawn Avenue near Van Cleef Street, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said this morning. An autopsy was completed yesterday by the Regional Medical Examiner's Office, the but the cause and manner of death has still not been determined and is pending further toxicology tests, DeFazio said. There was no sign of trauma to Sumter's body and there was no forced entry to her residence, DeFazio said. "This does not appear to be foul play," he said. DeFazio did not know this morning if Sumter had a history of medical problems. The relative found Sumter's body in the living room, called 911, but EMTs said Sumter was unresponsive, DeFazio said, adding Jersey City police were then notified. Jersey City police declined to comment.JJ
