Jersey City police say three men arrested after drugs and gun found in car during routine traffic stop
Tuesday, June 29, 2010
A routine traffic stop by Jersey City police led to three arrests Saturday night after plainclothes cops found loaded guns and drugs, reports said.
Jersey City residents Tyree Witherspoon and Larry Jackson, both 18, and Kareem St. Louis, 24, of Bayonne, were charged with possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of weapons, along with several drug charges, including intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance near a school, police said.
At around 11:30 p.m., police spotted St. Louis, of West 28th Street, driving a 4-door Infiniti without a seat belt and stopped the car on Arlington Avenue near Claremont Avenue, police said.
When they approached the car, cops saw Witherspoon trying to hide something in the back seat, reports said. The three suspects were ordered out of the car while officers conducted a search, reports said.
Police found two loaded revolvers - one from an arm rest area and the other located underneath the rear passenger seat, reports said.
All three men were placed under arrest.
During processing police found nine plastic bags of suspected marijuana in Witherspoon's upper waistband area, reports said.
