Jersey City police officer stole $600 from man during stop, authorities say

A Jersey City police officer has been indicted on charges he stole $600 from a city man during a stop more than a year ago.

Denzel Suitt, who joined the department in 2015, is charged with theft by unlawful taking, a third-degree offense, and official misconduct, a second-degree offense.

Authorities say that on March 25, 2018, Suitt was on duty and conducted a stop of a man who has been convicted at least nine times since 1993. According to the indictment, Suitt took $600 from the man.
