JERSEY CITY — The principal of a marketing firm based in the city repeatedly bribed a prominent executive of soccer's international governing body in order to remain the exclusive marketing agent for a prestigious South American tournament,  according to an investigative report by the New York Daily News.

The bribery and kickback scheme described by the paper was outlined in an indictment filed two weeks ago as part of a U.S. Department of Justice investigation into alleged corruption at FIFA, but the company's name and its owner were identified only as "Sports Marketing Company A" and "Co-Conspirator #5," respectively.  "Co-Conspirator #5" is Zorana Danis, owner of International Soccer Marketing in Jersey City,  the paper reported.

With the blessing of Nicolas Leoz of Paraguay -- indicted two weeks ago on fraud charges in an international investigation into soccer corruption led by the U.S. Justice Department -- the New Jersey company raised more than $100 million from the likes of Toyota, Bridgestone and Santander. The corporations paid for title sponsorship rights to the annual tournament, which pits the continent's best professional clubs against each other, and the Jersey City firm took a commission on every deal.

Now, the Daily News has learned that the company -- described as "Sports Marketing Company A" in the sweeping indictment of Leoz and other FIFA officials released two weeks ago in the Eastern District of New York -- is International Soccer Marketing, or ISM, a company founded in 1995.
