Police officers found a loaded gun in the rear wheel well of an unoccupied car early this morning in Jersey City while a disorderly group was being broken up in the same area, according to a police report.

At around 1:21 a.m., officers responded to the area of McAdoo and Rutgers avenues on the report of street fight, officers said.

As officers dispersed the disorderly group of people, one officer who conducted a "park and walk" on McAdoo Avenue spotted a shiny object sticking out of the rear wheel well of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, the report stated.

The officer reached into the well and pulled out a silver Ruger handgun, which had its hammer was cocked back, officers said. He immediately rendered it safe and later placed the weapon into evidence, the report said.

The gun had a full magazine with one round in the chamber, officers said.

The police investigation into the recovery of the gun is active, the report stated.
