A Jersey City man is in stable condition today after he was viciously assaulted in an apparent failed carjacking on Communipaw Avenue last night, according to a police report.

Around 1:40 a.m. today, the 39-year-old victim said, he parked his Chevy van at the corner of Communipaw Avenue and Van Horne Street, where he struck up a conversation with four males while he was still in his car, the report states.

The four men then rushed the vehicle, pulled the victim from the van and began punching him in the face, according to the report.

The man tried to get back in his van and flee, but the keys in the ignition were gone, the report says.

The victim then ran back to his home on Whiton Street where he called 911, reports state.

The victim received a large laceration above his forehead, which officers note was bleeding heavily, reports state.

The man was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition, reports state.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call (201) 547-JAIL.
