A Jersey City man told police Monday that a stranger walking down the street cut him with knife after he said ?Hello? to the man.

The 40-year-old victim told cops he was walking near Woodward Street and Walter Mays Drive around 7:45 p.m. when he greeted the man, police reports said.

The victim said that as he passed the man, a woman nearby yelled, ?Watch out, turn around,? and when he turned, he saw the man was about to stab him with a knife.

The victim said he tried to protect himself with his left hand and got cut on his left index finger.
