Jersey City man hit in face with gun during daylight robbery on Garfield Avenue

A Jersey City man was robbed at gunpoint and pistol-whipped in broad daylight yesterday on Garfield Avenue, officials said.

The 18-year-old victim told police he was near Danforth Avenue at 10:37 a.m. when a man approached him and pressed the barrel of a semiautomatic handgun to his side.

The victim told police the robber demanded his cellphone and when he did not react, the man pistol-whipped him on the left side of his face and ear, causing cuts and swelling, the report says. After taking the cellphone worth $200, the robber told the victim to turn around and then ran away, the report says.

The gunman was described as being 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, with a beard and mustache, and wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans, the report says.
