Jersey City police say pair who used machete in carjacking are nabbed while Honda Civic is being dismantled in garage

Published: Saturday, June 16, 2012, 3:00 AM

By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

Fast police work led to the arrests of two Jersey City men charged with carjacking a vehicle while armed with a machete early yesterday morning, officials said.

David Rodriguez, 31, of Kensington Avenue, and Loui Pham, 22, of Ivy Place, made their first court appearance yesterday on charges including carjacking, possession of a weapon during a carjacking and unlawful possession of a weapon.

They face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

At 12:46 a.m., police responded to Sip and Van Wagenen avenues, where the two victims said they had just dropped someone off when three men approached them, one wielding a machete, reports said. When they saw the machete and began backing away, one of the carjackers yelled "Slice him," but the carjackers escaped in the victims' car, reports said.
