The NJCU Public Safety Department is concerned for our community as well as the community-at-large. While the incident occurred off campus, we have placed our public safety officers on a heightened state of alert. The Public Safety Department has already increased patrols.

We will continue to provide information on personal safety and crime prevention through talks and presentations by our public safety officers. The Public Safety Department is available to provide security escorts (call extension 3128) and crime prevention brochures to anyone in our community.

Some Basic Security Tips:

? Stay alert. Walk in well-lighted areas. Keep your mind on your surroundings, who?s in front of you and who?s behind you. Don?t get distracted. If you?re worried about crime, ask a friend to accompany you when you go out.

? Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable in a place or situation, leave.

? If you suspect you?re being followed by someone on foot, cross the street and head for the nearest well-lighted, populated area. Locate a store and call the police, if possible.

? Use the NJCU Security Escort Service or request the KnightRider van service.

We assure everyone that we are doing everything possible to provide a safe environment to all who study, work and visit the NJCU campus.
