Minutes: Block Meeting @ City Hall Council Chambers ? Saturday, February 20, 2010
1- Councilwoman Lopez thanks attendees for attending the meeting.
Mayor Action Bureau?no one attended: Saturday - no overtime (no volunteers?)
Capt. Hussy ? said he would have a representative at the meeting (No One Attended)
2- Tom Cutis talked about crime in Marion section
3- Lopez emphasized knowledge of crime committed should be shared, economy being bad, lay off in government happening, ?We need Community Solutions in Place?, need to help youth. Gov?t Christie announced cutting 375 different State programs, the city terminating 278 jobs and rumors are it will be 400 jobs by the end of March, in this struggling economy, crime may increase; she shared her personal experience on an attempt of being mugged at the park.
4- Attendees stated $90,000 +Salary of policeman, not doing job. Where do we report their hiding place? Director of Police: Sam Jefferson ? 201-547-5300
5- Instances of Burglaries, etc. discussed.
6- Capt. Hussy attends the 3rd Wednesday 3/24/10 at 7PM ? Old Bergen Church- Block Association. (Council Meeting on that night- Councilwoman NRL can?t attend) Attendees were asked to attend.
7. What is the Liability to having a Block Watch Area? Can we reinstate Block Watch in our neighborhood? Signs are up in areas but no activity. 2/follow
8. Miriam Melendez discussed the incident at DiSantos Park where her son died and her commitment to making sure the park is Safe.
9. Suggestions to help prevent Crimes:
a) Report Light?s not working = Mayor?s Action Bureau ? Tel#547-5555
b) Keep your porch light on at night.
c) Start a ?Phone Tree? communication with each other about crime concerns.
d) Report all areas of concern to Police District ? do not try to solve it on your own.
e) Attend Block Association Meetings ? get involved.

g) Report Slum landlords that are not fixing broken entrance doors (they live out of town and hire agency to take care of their property). Report to Mayor?s Action Bureau ? Tel#547-5555 or council person in your ward ? NRLopez 201-547-5159.
10. Look into Auxiliary Police or Special Police One- Can it be done? No overtime to police/detective ? questions for Director Sam Jefferson. 2/follow
11. Is it true that the smaller libraries in JC are going to be closed? Ask? 2/follow
12. Web access cameras should be place with the ability of residents seeing camera pictures thru internet, high resolution. Ask? 2/follow
13. Did the Mayor and top people get salary increase this year? Ask? Gossip, not true.
