I highly recommend Manfred Tschopp. He's one of the few honest and competent contractors I've had come to my home. His number is (973) 779-3112

Unfortunately, there is currently no website for the Astor Place Association. Meetings are usually organized by word of mouth; however, I believe the president said that he was going to eventually create a Facebook page. If and when he creates it, I'll post a link here.

Whatever you do don't go to Club H. I've been a member for almost a year and I'm really regretting getting a membership. The monthly fee is exorbitant and you getting very little in return in terms of services. I find that with some exceptions the staff is unfriendly, surly and not helpful. Also, it seems as if lately they're trying to cut costs by not turning on the air conditioning or providing towel service.

Don't buy into some of the hyperbole in this forum. While the area has it's problems, it's not the Gaza Strip.

I've lived on this block for the past four years with my wife and I haven't had any problems beyond garbage on my property. I would probably be considered a yuppie by most people an there are several other households on the block that are just like mine. Besides where else can you buy a brownstone/Brickrow house for 200k and still have a 20 minute commute to the city?
