Re: Greece, Puerto Rico and Democrats

Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States and has been so recognized as such by the United Nations for decades while the independence movement in Puerto Rico has always been a target of U.S. government repression. The people of Puerto Rico are owed reparations for the ecological and social devastation they have suffered since the first U.S. troops came ashore on July 25, 1898. And the vulture hedge funds that want to take over the island should not be paid anything.

This should give a big incentive for the BDS movement to get going in Jersey City!

All this talk about "crime in the streets". Let's change the focus. Why not talk about all the "crime in the suites" - right along the Jersey City waterfront! That's where the real criminals are - not folks selling dime bags in Bergen-Lafayette or Greenville to survive. Who made all the $$$$ off the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Who deals with corrupt government officials? Who owns the planes? Who launders the $$$$ every day?

And one F-35 Lighteng II fighter costs around $200 million each! The Pentagon plans to buy over 2,400 from Lockheed Martin for the USAF, USMC and USN. That's $ taken from mass transit and other things.

The use of atomic weapons in Japan, Agent Orange defoliant in Vietnam and depleted uranium munitions in Iraq is even more horrendous since it impacts untold future generations born decades later.

Re: Comment by Yvonne (#4) on military service -

Would you give an exemption to an "illegal immigrant" who was not a member of the U.S. Armed Forces but instead is active in the peace movement?

Fulop and Healy are two wings of the same bird and the election has nothing to do with changing the power structure running Jersey City. The real issue that should be discussed is the corporate takeover of public education where there are tremendous profits to be made.

I have used Downtown Vets since they opened on First St. and they have been great. Dr. Alanna Chesney-Manz is an outstanding vet. My dog - the best dog in the world - has older dog issues and she handles them with a professional caring attitude. Downtown Vets is highly recommended.

Could be Vietnam War, Iraq War or Afghan War vets. Thank you for your service. Sorry for the PTSD. You can stay medicated. But stay out of Van Vorst Park!

The fact is Che is a political icon throughout the world. Che means struggle for your rights by any means necessary. A true internationalist he fought in Cuba, the Congo and Bolivia.

A generation later Cuban internationalists - with the spirit of Che - broke the back of apartheid South Africa as freedom fighters in Angola.

And today hundreds of Cuban doctors are working in Haiti with the same spirit and with no demands for insurance cards or co-payments.

As for the right-wing Cubans - just take a look at Union City and West New York politics over the last 30 years!
