Went to Pathmark today and have to say it's a day and night comparing to ShopRite shopping experience. And the prices are much better, especially for seafood. I found a better place to shop!

@susiederkins, @ Greenvillechick:

I think their whole management team needs to be replaced. The operation of this store most of the times (read 99%) makes me feel beyond speechless! :)

@GnomeGeneral:

I know ;)

UPDATE:

I was contacted on the phone by a lady in charge of customer service from the Metro Plaza ShopRite and here's what she had to say regarding the incident.

The managers and undercover security personnel are instructed not to get involved with arguing customers and just stand back and observe until somebody might get hurt (waiving your fist an inch away from somebody's face is not enough for them to get involved).

They've tried interfering and breaking up the arguing parties before and it only lead to customers starting yelling at the managers and/or security personnel. (I guess they are too sensitive for that and they are not getting paid enough to risk their precious lives).

She also tried justifying people's behavior by tough economic situation in the country and suggested not to shop at ShopRite in the first week of each month, when most of the people get their checks.

So basically, until somebody gets punched in the face, nobody is gonna do a damn thing. But then it becomes the store's liability, which seems to work for them better this way. Go figure!?

Got a reply from ShitRope today. Here's what they have to say:

"Thank you for emailing ShopRite. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

First, we want to thank you for your feedback regarding your recent shopping trip. We are concerned to hear of your experience with this store associate. At ShopRite, our customers are the most important part of our business and customer service is top priority. Your feedback is very important because it helps us focus on issues that require improvement.

As you may know, ShopRite stores are owned and operated by independent companies. Wakefern provides the stores with products and retail support services but the storeowner ultimately controls the day-to-day operations. We?ve sent a copy of the information you provided to the owner of this store for further follow up with their management team.

We want to assure you that all of us at Wakefern and ShopRite share a commitment to ensure our customers are completely satisfied with our stores, products, and the services we provide. Customers who care enough to let us know when we?ve fallen short are our most valuable resources. We regret any inconvenience this matter has caused and we hope we?ll be able to restore your confidence in us.

If we can be of any assistance in the future, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Melissa P.
Customer Care Team Leader"

Bunch of BS and nothing specific. Which probably means the management is just gonna accidentally loose the fax papers/e-mail and live happily ever after. :)

I agree, but we're talking about the supermarket here with 2 of their children present and hundreds of other customers around you. You would expect some kind of interaction from management in a situation like this. You're not just gonna start a fight there. And by the way, my buddy is a girl ;) and I did told them to f... off.

Ha!

It's true. Loud-talking a-holes need to get shouted down sometimes.

I did registered a complaint at their website. We'll see if there is gonna be any response from them at all. Or do I have to write to somebody else in order to send it to their headquaters?

We're paying for the service and we want to feel safe no matter what state you are in: awake or asleep (which wasn't his intention).

@regulator: since when "being crazy" relieves management and security especially from doing what they are supposed to do (providing a safe environment for their customers)?Quote:

thats a really random story. i dont know why they would shake their fist at you or your friend unprovoked. maybe they're just crazy. kinda dumb that security didnt kick them out, especially if it wasnt the first time that it happened.

they do have pretty cheap prices, but a) i wouldnt go specifically there just due to the prices, and b) i wouldnt specifically avoid it due to 'ghettoness'. mostly i go in because it's right next door to the BJ's, which is where i get most of my stuff. the leftover stuff i cant / won't get from BJ's is acquired at shoprite

ShopRite - the place where you feel safe!

I would like to raise a concern about customer safety at my local Shop Rite (of Metro Plaza).

On August 5th I came to the store with my friend and as we came to a check out register we were asked to go to another register by a customer who was having problems with checking out. Which we did, but all of a sudden that same customer started yelling at us saying that we were rude. The next moment she was joined by her husband who closed in on us and started shaking his fist at my friend?s face. Their yelling and threatening lasted for about 5 minutes.

During that time none of the employees came to our rescue. As it turned out later, the manager did come out to the front during that time but never announced his presence. The security guy was standing by next to him but never asked those people to leave the store. The manager looked scared himself and the security guy was just chilling and did not seem to care.

When we approached them after the situation resolved itself and asked them why they never got involved they said they have had similar problems with this couple before and that they seemed ?harmless?. And none of them apologized either.

So I am wondering since when shaking a fist at other people became ?harmless? and I will not go back to that store until I am assured that I can actually be safe there. I consider situations like that absolutely unacceptable and would like to see how the store is going to re-mediate this after registering a complaint at their website.
