Re: 3 Jersey City boys arrested after bringing two plastic pellet guns to school

It is illegal in NJ to carry an airsoft gun openly in public too. It is a public safety issue and set up in part to protect those who own them from being mistaken for a real gun. Cops do shoot students--look at the recent Texas case. "Toy" guns have no place in school.

Pellet guns are illegal in NJ unless you have a permit--it is current law whether you agree with it or not. Teachers don't have to agree with a law, but they certainly do risk losing their job if they don't uphold the law and report it. The police were responsible for making the actual arrest and the court system will be responsible for carrying it out. --It seems straight-forward to me.

Wow. Scary comment that teachers should realize the difference between a real gun and a toy. Teachers and school districts must follow NJ stautues--thank goodness. "Incredibly stupid" is a strong remark to make when it is clear that unlicensed possession of a pellet gun is against the law in NJ and carries significant penalties. In NJ it can be considered a felony. There was no toy gun involved and these boys were arrested accordingly. Thank goodness for teachers who understand the law and are looking out for the safety of our kids! Certainly these students and their guardians will now learn about the consequences of bring an illegal gun to a public place.

Re: Buying: Paulus Hook or Harsimus Cove

We always enjoyed Paulus Hook with kids and the waterfront offers a great place to get out to walk and play. It is more of an event to go to Van Vorst Park, but no problem on a nice day or when you have an hour to kill. The parking is tight, but better than some areas. You do have occasional break-ins or vandalism on the street. P.S. 16 is a good, small school for a public school in Jersey City. There are no issues about enrolling if you live in the neighborhood. In fact, students from other parts of Jersey City attend because there are not enough students in the area enrolled. Good luck!

Re: Ob/Gyn and a place to deliver a baby

Dr. Breshia and Dr. Migliaccio delivered both my girls. I always went to St. Mary's or now Hoboken Univer. Hospital to get the ultrasounds. It was a minor hassle, but worth it for the quality of the doctors. I had some complications with my second pregnancy and they were excellent! I live in Cranford, NJ now and still go back to them.

I had a c-section with Dr. Migliaccio and a regular delivery with Dr. Breccia. Dr. Tully took care of a lot of my prenatal visits. I trust all of them. They are very thorough and have a great way of making you feel comfortable. I no longer live in Jersey City, but still maintain that practice as my OBGYN.

Re: Maternity - NJ Paid Leave Policies

NJ workers are taxed something like $6 or $7 each month out of their paycheck to help fund it. It allows 6 weeks of paid family leave insurance to care for a family member or newborn. There is a cap of $600 per week, so a maximum benefit of $3600. You have up to one year after the birth of a child to use this benefit. NJ employers cannot deny you the time off according to the law.

The mayor's office and my ward councilman were both very helpful and responsive to an issue I had with my landlord last year regarding child safety bars and a discrimination issue. I was impressed and relieved at the time.
