Re: Church for Wedding

my niece was christened at St Matthews Lutheran (downtown on wayne) and we're not members there. You could also try Old Bergen Church (presbyterian). my kids go to sunday school there and we're not members. So, they might do weddings.

Wow, interesting thread this has become. One time a few years ago, this skank junkie broke in while I was home. I was totally terrified until a whole bunch of lazy, overpaid cops came and saved my little ass. The dispatcher was comforting and these cops caught him red handed and considering how dumb they are, I felt the handled everything very professionally. I imagine having been bored all day this was the most exciting thing that ever happened to them. Oh and once two women were (at different times) mugged on my corner. They got the guys, after a "sting" right in front of my stoop. so maybe that was the 2nd most exciting thing. As a child and sibling of FDNY employees, I asked them (without mentioning this thread) what the ratios are for the city. JC, while having better pay, is where it needs to be. Rather than complain, why not take the tests and reap the benefits of these jobs. Some of you seem to have lots of free time, and you could clearly raise the bar on the intelligence quota. Of course you'd have to be willing to get shot at and fight fires on occasion.

from what I hear, Mary will be focusing on her salon in Florida and a new person is trying to purchase the salon, and if that happens Lucy is considering staying on.

Maybe new developers should be forced to pay a percentage into a fund that would be used to make much needed upgrades to our city's infrastructure. Starting with the sewer system. Think of all the new residents flushing, and washing everything from their cars to their bodies and everything else they'll be putting into the sewers. This is going to be very taxing for these already over taxed, antiquated sewer lines. Not so sure they can handle the "load".

Re: Tell Trader Joe's to come near the Grove Station!

Everytime I walk down Jersey ave, btwn Christopher Col. and Newark, (often) I imagine a sort of "trader Joes-the annex". The old borinquen hardware store is where I would put it. there is no parking, but it's big, empty and maybe even equidistant from the path and lightrail. There is room in this town for all different grocery stores. Ctown is fine, shoprite is fine, whatever. What we dont have is a big, health food oriented grocer. Indepentently owned or a chain. And we want it so badly!

cute little lost kitty in yard. black and white (like a cow). he's hunkering down in a piece of pvc pipe under the fence between me and the next yard. can he survive the night? his eyes irritated and he's not terribly friendly. I offered him food and he let me touch his nose but then took off. poor fella.

well, while on this topic, we've been looking for a protestant church with a large active sunday school for our kids. Any suggestions? We'll go any where in hudson county or manhattan near a path stop.

I've only lived here a little over a decade, but my mother is 2nd generation born and raised in JC and I can't wait to show her this thread! She loves to have me drive her around to some of her old "haunts" when she visits us. she's mentioned a "glowing mound" at the bottom of carteret ave, near one of the places she lived,. I told her it was a super fund sight and that it explains alot about her!

A decade or so when i was livivng in hoboken, my big giant pregnant self would wobble onto the train after a long day at work on my feet and every WSJ or voice would suddenly become so interesting that it needed to be read mere inches from their noses. it pissed me off terribly. did their mothers raise them to be like that? I noticed a big difference when i started riding the jsq path. which coincided with my 2nd pregnancy. All the construction guys, and "blue collar", even the thugy looking kids are so much kinder to preggars and little kids etc in this town. IMO.

This is my first time posting> I felt compelled by the thread. I've delivered all my children at hoboken Uni. hosp and had wonderful, dare i say - enjoyable - experiences. I needed medical intervention with each delivery, and even with that addition, I cant complain a bit. Good luck and congratulations!
