Nasty tweeker... *chuckle* So he thinks it's cool here? lol

Hell, even J Crew beat him to it... They shot on 3rd street over 7 years ago after it just became safe enough in daylight for the namby pambies to wander in.

JC was cool in it's own stupid special way before any of these sorts "discovered it" and that died when they moved here. Groan...

That's a classic... Such crude violence is too Mad Max in my book- but admittedly in certain cases, I do feel a tiny happy tickle of schadenfreude at the idea of a little fear or humility is introduced into a clueless bastards tiny mental reality. Often that's the only thing which keeps them "in check".

I recall in Cali circa 80's/early 90's gangs and rival cycle riders would sneak out at night and 'oil slick' certain roads frequented by foes they knew would speed down. Tit for tat only escalated the tension, eventually cops would ban large groups from riding together and keep an eye on everyone. Generally a bad scene in a tough era.

Honest, responsible riders who rode solo for pleasure were never hassled though.

Do we have a passive aggressive grammar nazi on board? Neat! I love how in the last decade only the best and brightest moved here all eager beaver to ingratiate themselves with the JC milieu...

PhDog, please do offer your smug corrections, just to make yourself feel superior while charitably molding your poor simpleton neighbor into a better person and generally do your part in saving the world.

Btw, congrats on keeping on point, that helps add to the discussion and get the very real problem solved.

("zing!")

Hmm, thanks for the input folks... Basically, it's a stalemate.

We can go around about the pro's & con's but it looks like a pointless discussion. *shrug* The status quo never killed anyone in Chilltown, that's for sure.... have a good weekend y'all.

That's a problem, when people give in to lowering their standards. If we all want it to stop we have to be a little vigilant and press the cops to lean on these few dudes that create probs for the thousands of other people (and pets)... what the hell are we paying their salaries for anyway? Elevated noise cause stress, stress is known to create health problems. If the rider is a deaf as he is dumb he shouldn't be on a bike in the first place. Where do I get off?: Rider friends and that my family is comprised of real riders- Harley's and Ducatti's. My cousin managed a shop for a few years and my uncle is a Duc specialist go-to guy in the south who does mods bikes for pro-riders. They loathe the post-midnight rev bullys and weekend warriors too. Blowhards who run their bikes like oversized toys to get attention.... notice these guys never have girlfriends or friends? There's a reason. Anyway, I got one easy answer to psychos who ride just to hear themselves make noise: >>>Spike Strip<<< http://toshmcintosh.com/wp-content/up ... /2011/02/spike-strips.jpg

In the downtown area every other day is more than adequate... everyone says so but it never changes..

What say you JCers, can we get this changed? Being a (young) old timer here it's bugged me for awhile but with JC budget issues being extra critical and the fact now we have a semi-responcible gov that notices things, maybe we can finally get them to see sense and fine tune these smaller issues, start working for 'us' the people for once. Only good things will come from it.

1) No one needs their street cleaned so often and the stupid things don't actually clean it anyway... merely push it around for the most part.

2) It's an added cost to the already strained city budget and increases wear & tear on the cleaners. Totally unnecessary service on a daily basis.

3) Car owners and visitors have to play the roulette parking game often get ticketed in the process if they don't move it fast enough.... There's other ways to increase revenue when dealing with cars and motorcycles. Such as increasing downtown parking permits from $15 annual (a gift!) to $100 for instance and ticketing speeders, polluting dollar buses, noise makers- loud bikes, audio blasters, et c.

How do we start this process technically speaking, how many names do we actually need to get this noticed by elected officials?

It's touching to read all these sensible, caring, responsible replies. What *could have* been said about this poor fellow is all too obvious.

I'm proud to such good people have stepped up here to voice concern about a troubled downtown neighbor, even offering useful step by step advice how to help. That's the attitude that makes Chilltown truly cool. Cheers to all.

... if possible, please keep us updated how the situation evolves.

You can do better quality wise for the money i'd say. I found it was given a quick, poor, unimaginative renovation... however, the one thing going for it is the excellent location and parking.

I lived very near this bldg. until recently and went to visit a resident there roughly 6 months back... was happy to finally see inside after watching a slow renovation over the period of a year or two back in '02 i think it was.

It was indeed a former elementary or middle school which sat empty for ages. Seemed like it's destiny was forever going to be a safe haven for bad kids to camp out on the entrance steps and roll blunts or a secret hideaway for pigeons & local ferrel cats that were able to sneak in via the broken windows. It smelled musty and had extensive water damage for a long while, unfortunately even after the renov. it still feels dank and damp inside.

Once inside i found the entrance floor covered with cheap, thin industrial carpet, you can almost feel the plywood sheets buckling underfoot. Not sure why the developer didn't opt to leave original floors there and renovate properly. (prolly b'cos it's a cost cutting trick by housing flippers seeking quick profits..)

The hallways are huge but apts and interior rooms are curiously small and not entirely private feeling. Of the one apt. i was in, i could hear neighbors talking next door and footstep sounds of 'walking around' above. Apparently they tossed up thin plasterboard walls to make apts out of the shape of the classrooms but it certainly didnt feel natural or cool. As another poster noted (a former tenant i think) it was cold and drafty in winter, perhaps they've worked on that issue by now.

Weirdest thing of all is, I've never once seen a super caring for the outside- never see anyone taking out trash, sweeping up the sidewalk or caring for tree planter areas which is on their property but they don't seem to mind garbage tossed into them. Broken glass, et c has been there for eons- i thought being private property they were required to keep it tidy/safe but apparently not. In winter the sidewalk is rarely cleared of snow until late in the afternoon, even then it's such a narrow strip two people cannot pass one another without stepping into a pile to let the other pass.

All in all i only wish they'd not doen a slap-dash hack job, because the school is cool, very solid. Had taken care with it given it's history, left the soul intact without sacrificing quality it would be the gem of the 'hood. But it's unlikely any new work will be done on it for another 50 years the way things tend to go in Chilltown .
