Have things gotten better in this building as of late? Are utilities still really high?

Is there anywhere to find out which voting locations may not be back up and running for election day?

according to my cousin who drove out there this morning the streets are a mess and many roads are closed. though he was able to take the pulaski to get into town. there is a driving ban currently in JC though. Im planning to wait until tomorrow.

I think you need to call PSE&G to ask about that. Hopefully the lines won't be jammed.

Are there any volunteer efforts around town or in Hoboken? I'd like to help out during my free time if possible.

I hear if the lines are jammed you can tweet them and they will get back to you as well.

Any other source for this? There is no alert on the united water website. So far it looks like this us the only news source saying the water is bad.

thats all i have seen. i wouldnt risk drinking it with all the flooding we got. I know that NYC said their water is good because they put extra chlorine into the system. not sure about ours.

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... ency_vehicles_banned.html

Jersey City is implementing a zero tolerance policy banning non-emergency vehicles from the roads in order to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles and the effort to cleanup the mess left by Hurricane Sandy, officials said at 3:15 p.m. today.

Breaking Weather News: Governor Chris Christie has announced that the PATH system linking commuters between New Jersey and New York City will remain out for the next 7-10 days. The Governor says commuters will need to rely on ferries like they did after the 9/11 attack.

I'm out of town and trying to get a sense of what things look like on the ground, particularly by Pacific Ave in back of Liberty State Park. Anybody able to get online from around there? from what i understand virtually all of JC is without power and there is still flooding downtown. Power may be out for a few days.

Having a difficult time estimating how high the water will get in downtown. We live near city hall - corner of Marin Blvd and Mercer. During Irene, we had 3 feet in the basement. What should we expect now?

Is this something where those on the "parlor" level of a brownstone should be concerned? We are on the first floor - but that's a good 5 feet above street level.

Thoughts?

you should expect whatever you got during irene plus more being that theres flooding and the rain has barely begun.

If you need to move it to higher ground, the city has made the following municipal lots available:

Montgomery Street and Orchard Street

Central Avenue lot adjacent to Burger King

522 West Side Avenue

754 West Side Avenue

174 Newark Avenue

Hoboken Avenue adjacent to Rt. 139

Flooding in wildwood. Not even raining!

The barrier islands areas are basically glorified sandbars. It doesn't take much of a surge to inundate them.

NOAA updated the storm path farther south. This drops rain totals for us under 5 inches, but ups the storm surge. They are 9 to 11 ft surge. A good part of Hoboken and a lot of the waterfront is less than 5 ft above sea level.

where are you seeing this?

Also, so are you saying that those that are more than 5ft above sea level may not see much flooding?

Newport mall was suggested earlier. Probably the cheapest option. park on the top deck.

Yes this is a big storm, but picking the worst paragraph out a 2 page article can make anything look bad. Here are some other choice paragraphs:

There’s reason to believe the models may be overdoing it. First off, what’s happening right now doesn’t have a clear precedence in the weather records. Our best available number-crunching simulations of the atmosphere simply weren’t designed for this scenario.

The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center — the same folks at the National Weather Service that gave Sandy its “Frankenstorm” name — have had to manually adjust their official forecasts to tone down the exceptional scenarios that the weather models are currently showing.

Right now, the most reliable model tracks have clustered in a relatively tight range from Delaware to New York City. Counterintuitively, should the center of the storm make a direct strike on New York City, the city may actually be spared some of the more serious coastal impacts from the storm.

Should Sandy veer further north of its current track and make landfall right over the city, storm surge could be dramatically lessened, though the city could receive about double the amount of rainfall — up to a foot or more.

For these reasons, if I were a resident of New York right now, I’d be rooting for a direct hit. If given a choice, I’d take 12 inches of rain over six feet of coastal flooding any day.

Will there be some flooding? Yes.
Will we lose power? Depends on where you live, but it a real possibility.
Are windows going to get blown out? No
Is this going to be like New Orleans after Katrina? No way.

how much rain did we get during irene?

This place is pretty cool. I went into the bar to grab a bar pie. They are very good. Also, this place has a ton of TVs. Good setup for sports watching. And the bar is cool.
