I?m saying that the photos below are from around Lembeck Ave. and Ocean Ave., which is further south from the end of MLK.

I don?t understand why the immediate association with Greenville is always MLK when there is a whole section of Greenville located further south of MLK.

I corrected my post below. Not all of this part of Greenville is near MLK. Take a look at a map of JC.

If I recall correctly, the requirement is a smoke detector outside of every bedroom and a CO detector in every hallway within a house or apartment.

Hello, everyone. This is my first post and I seem to now be resurrecting a dead topic. However, I wanted to discuss the future of Newport now that the wretched waste of space Pay/Half is now gone after 15 years.

If you haven't seen, the Pay/Half space is being divided into two restaurant spaces (something the mall desperately needed to be completely honest). The construction has begun on the outside of this space directly across from the light rail. It looks like the former truck dock (specifically used for Pay/Half and former Filene's Basement) is being demolished and these two restaurants will have outdoor entrances and hopefully outdoor patio seating, with a gorgeous view of the lovely light rail station and its charming riders of course.

As for what will take over these two spots, nothing has been made official yet. The big rumor is The Cheesecake Factory, which I will not be surprised if it is true. Although I am quite frankly sick of the abundance of CFs in NJ (8 locations now and Short Hills being the closest), I welcome it. The location and spot works too. The CF in Trumbull, CT is what comes to mind when I envision the finished product.

No clue as for the second spot. I have heard rumors about Legal Sea Foods and McCormick and Schmicks. If not one of these two, I can see P.F. Chang's or Brio Tuscan Grille. Something along those lines.

As for new stores, I am hoping for a J. Crew or Banana, but hopefully those will come with the changing of Metro Plaza into a new high rise development. For some weird reason, American Apparel is opening upstairs, even though they are right next to the seemingly successful Hoboken store. I have a feeling this store won't make it here. A Uniqlo would be great instead.

I actually overheard a cashier at Old Navy near Hudson Mall a few days ago tell a customer that Newport will be getting a Banana Republic.

St. Paul the Apostle Church is pretty good too. It's located on the corner of Greenville Ave. and Old Bergen Road.

Even better UPS now uses Access Point. This complaint, however, has nothing to do with UPS. You're lucky if you haven't gotten delivery with their private messengers yet. They're all over downtown, 7 days/week.

Yeah, I'm unfamiliar with their private messengers. As I mentioned, all of my Amazon packages are with UPS, USPS, or Lasership. Even when I order for one of my friends who lives in Downtown Manhattan (I have Prime and he doesn't), his packages are usually UPS or USPS.

Bayonne's streets are pretty bad too. I'd say Jersey City is doing an overall better job with the potholes than Bayonne (considering JC has much more area to cover).

This. I went to McNair (but this was many years ago), and as a college senior, I was able to focus so much time on my thesis project thanks to all of the AP classes that I took in high school.

I attended public schools from kindergarten thru senior year of high school (all in Jersey City) and got into one of the top architectural schools in the country on a scholarship, if that says anything.

In a residential building, I don't think sprinklers go by the height of the building but more so by the amount of families/dwellings in the building. I want to say once you go past 3 families/apartments, you are required to have sprinklers. As for whether they are required in closets or bathrooms, I'm not too sure about that. I can try looking it up in the IBC or IFC one of these days. (I work for an architect.)

I'm pretty sure that a min of 1-hr rated walls are required between units and around staircases in apartment buildings.

I don't know what the code calls for in Edgewater but I do know that this applies to construction in Jersey City and Bayonne.

I guess the Mall caters to the Hood. I'm sure Teavana, Qdoba and Michael Kors are all the rage on Ocean Ave.

And Newport is just so hood...Morton Williams, Komegashi, Skylark on the Hudson...I mean if only we could be more like Greenville and get a Kennedy Fried Chicken over here!

I live within walking distance of the mall and I don't want it to go anywhere. Thanks for the concern though. I'd much rather it stay and continue.

I do appreciate the hipster denigration of any enterprise not some organic or hand me down or overpriced baloney, and I do always, always appreciate the envy of non-downtowners with real estate envy who show it through the aspersion cast on the city's best districts.

Carry on, the rest of us will enjoy the convenience.

...because everyone in Greenville eats at fried chicken spots and doesn't know what Teavana, Qdoba, or Michael Kors are.

Yvonne, you keep bringing up all of the doctors, lawyers, etc. that you know that are graduates of SPP. I graduated from McNair 13 years ago and attended one of the top architecture schools in the country (Pratt Institute, on scholarship, might I add) and got my bachelors in architecture.

K-Lo is correct that in phys. ed., students learn about the rules and regulations of every sport before they play them in order to understand the sport.

It is nice having all of your classmates living in the same city as you. It is also nice to have common grounds with your classmates (makes bullying less likely to happen). Also, the diversity of the school does help students learn about other each other's cultures/backgrounds.

As for sports, I didn't really participate in sports in HS because I invested most of my extracurricular time to art, but McNair does have many opportunities to take part in various sports and other extracurricular activities.

The AP classes were awesome too and saved me some time and money when I got to college and was able to transfer my AP credits over.

There were scenes from Cadillac Records filmed in Jersey City because I remember when they were filming at the school across the street from St. Paul's Church on the corner of Greenville Ave. and Old Bergen Road. I remember seeing Mos Def's trailer set up there.

I would consider contacting an architect for a consultation since they know what would make the apartment meet the requirements of the building code. I'm pretty sure the bedroom will need an "escape" window, amongst other things.

People are usually deterred away from Greenville because they associate it with Ocean Ave and MLK Blvd but there are parts of Greenville (for example, the area near the border of Bayonne/JC, south of Danforth Ave) that are fairly quiet areas populated by middle class families who have lived there for decades.

As a lifelong resident of that street, I can confirm that it is a very peaceful and quiet area. Neighbors are pretty friendly. There's really good access to just about anything (by car or lightrail) so that's always a convenience. Once in a while people have parties or kids play football or something on the streets (especially when the weather is nice) but it never becomes an annoyance. I think you'd like it here.
