The final configuration at the end of the ramp was mandated, designed and implemented by the NJ Department of Transportation. City Hall had nothing to do with it.

I participated in the student strike at St. Peter's in 1968 and also marched in the anti war demonstrations. There was no violence.

Speaking of the Black Panthers, in the 1968 Jersey City mayoral campaign Tom Whelan tried to link Julian Robinson (a moderate black) to the Black Panthers. It was a shameful racist thing to do. Thankfully, karma got Whelan and he was indicted and convicted with the Hudson Eight for corruption.

Yes, we need candidates with no resume, experience or accomplishments. That makes sense.

Republicans are very good at repeating the same lines over and over : tax and spend liberals, socialism, we are going to tax businesses out of the State, drill baby drill, blah blah blah. It's sad that their agenda has gained traction with a fanatical lunatic fringe who are motivated to turn out in every election. And of course, our "mainstream media" lends credibility by never truly questioning or showing the real racists and no nothings who make up the Republican and Tea Party movements.

Overtaxed ? Perhaps not.

By Dennis Cauchon, USA TODAY

Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year since Harry Truman's presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found.

Where else can a youngish crowd find such fairly priced food; a fight-free environment; no drug sales; great buy-backs; bartenders that don't change every other week, and an owner that is on-site and gives a damn every single day?

For clarification, the only teachers receiving the above stated increases are those who have been teaching in Jersey City for 10 plus years (many of whom possess master's degrees and have been making on average $9,000 less than other professionals with this level of education). Others receive only a nominal increase in pay, which amounts to a couple hundred dollars, and once they begin contributing 1.5% towards their healthcare benefits, they will end up with a pay cut. EACH AND EVERY TEACHER IN THE DISTRICT IS NOT RECEIVING AN INCREASE IN PAY - ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE DEDICATED THEMSELVES TO THE CHILDREN OF THIS CITY FOR TEN OR MORE YEARS. And if you think they don't deserve it, spend a week in the classroom with them before you pass judgment.

Republicans Christie and Schundler love to make teachers the whipping boys. At the end of the day Christie, with his Bush/Rove agenda, seeks to limit the income of middle class policemen, firemen and teachers to enrich his wealthy Republican friends.

Some historical perspective.

New York Times

Revaluations Anger Homeowners
By JEFFREY HOFF

Published: October 16, 1988

JERSEY CITY? AS Trenton, Camden and Newark face their first revaluations of property in more than 25 years, the troubled experience of Jersey City offers an example of the confusion that revaluations can cause when they are postponed during years of rapidly rising real-estate values, tax experts and officials say.

Numerous Jersey City homeowners were shocked last spring to find that their assessments rose tenfold, but more dismayed to learn that nearly identical houses down the block got only sevenfold increases.

The purpose of a revaluation is to insure that property owners pay their fair share of property taxes by bringing assessments up to 100 percent of market value. But thousands of Jersey City homeowners have joined a group that filed suit against the city charging that the revaluation was not conducted properly, resulting in exaggerated bills.

In dozens of protest meetings around the city this year, property owners argued that the revaluation completed for 1988 is unacceptable because field inspectors failed to enter the majority of homes, were poorly trained and assessed many properties far above or below market value.

Nearly 5,000 property owners appealed their valuations before the Hudson County Board of Taxation last month, and thousands have contributed to hire Saul Wolfe, a Livingston lawyer and president of the State Bar Association, to file suit against the city challenging the results.

It is not uncommon for city governments to appeal the revaluations, which are conducted by independent companies. But residents say it seems curious that the Jersey City administration would take the politically unpopular position of supporting the revaluation, especially since the Mayor plans to run again next year.

Disputes have arisen, however, between the City Assessor and the revaluation company, and the assessor says he has changed thousands of the assessments.

I highly recommend Dr. Bo Seok at 3285 John F Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City. He's a bright young guy from the University of Pennsylvania dental school who interned at Columbia Presbyterian. He's done a number of root canals and crowns for me with no pain or complications. He takes all insurance and is willing to work with you on fees.

There are currently two deputy mayors.

Rosemary McFadden, who takes no salary from the City, and Kabili Tayari. Tayari makes $100K.

McFadden is a knowledgeable hard working professional. Tayari is a politically connected moron who brings no skills or value to City government.

Jersey City Business Administrator Brian O'Reilly is leaving city government

By Ken Thorbourne/The Jersey Journal
November 24, 2009, 5:04PM

Jersey City Business Administrator Brian O'Reilly confirmed today he's leaving employment with the city by April.

O'Reilly, a city employee for nearly 25 years, said he's exploring a position within 10 miles of his home in Howell. But whether or not he lands that job, he's leaving.

"I commute 150 miles a day," he said. "It gets old."

The $154,000-a-year business administrator said his imminent departure is "no secret."

Most department directors in the city report to the business administrator and the person in that post is principally responsible for preparing a city budget.

O'Reilly, 47, is the son of former Ward A Councilwoman Bernadette O'Reilly. He served as the city's chief tax assessor and formerly directed the city's real estate office.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy appointed him business administrator in 2004.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy has declined an invitation to participate in a major televised mayoral debate.
Local political commentator Pat O?Melia, who organized the event and scheduled it for April 1, said that Healy Campaign Manager Bud Demellier wrote him a letter declining the debate invitation because ?the Mayor will give first priority to attending debates that are sponsored by respected, fair and unbiased organizations that reach a broad audience.?
