other than the fact i think there food is average on a good day, and it's overpriced, nothing.

That sounds more like a reason for you not to go there. It doesnt sound like a reason you would want them to fail.

I usually go to Sawadee for take out and have had only good experiences there. I often see the owner and I know that he is very interested in his customers opinions because he asks my opinion about things and will tell me what other customers are telling him. There are some really good owners in the city who are trying hard to please their customers but also have to work hard to stay in business.

I didn't know Nicole that well but had quite a few conversations with Ed. I am really sorry that they had to close because they made a great contribution to the restaurant scene in JC. They were producing very good food while trying to offer options so people could eat less expensively, e.g happy hours until 8 (or 9 sometimes) and options to order half portions. I hope they will stay in the area and have the opportunity to do something similar in the future. Good luck, Nicole and Ed and thank you for the enjoyable times I have spent in your restaurant. You also hired some excellent staff who were always very pleasant to interact with and I wish them all the best too.

it's a sad day when this place closes, yet Sawadee remains.

brutal.

So what do you have against Sawadee? They are/were both great additions to the community. I used to eat in both regularly and I am very sad to see Ox go. I certainly would hate to see Sawadee go through similar problems, so what is your beef with them?

Last week I was crossing Jersey Ave on the Hamilton Park side of 7th street. I was about 60% across in the walkway when a white SUV came through the stop sign at 7th street and turned left heading directly at me. The driver seemed to see me, stop, and then head directly at me again. The driver did finally stop at the last minute and let me cross. I thought I saw a "sorry!" hand gesture but the windows were so heavily tinted I couldn't really tell.

A similar thing happened crossing North on Newark in the walkway on the west side of Jersey Ave with the "Walk" sign illuminated. A woman driving north on Jersey turned left into Newark and apparently did not see me although she had plenty of time to slow down and stop she just kept heading straight at me.

I think in both cases the drivers may have expected me to retreat back to the side I had crossed from.

It's 35mm film, although they are going to have 70mm film too.
The quality of the prints was excellent. The color in both Chinatown and Niagra was stunning (the other two films were black and white). Niagra uses a particular type of color which has not been used since. According to the experts there you will not see as rich or vivid colors in the techniques that are being used today and the quality of the print was said to be extremely close to the original.

I don't care what movie theater it is, I'm not going to pay 9 or 10 bucks to see a movie. I'll wait the three months to rent the DVD for a dollar.

Well I have to say I had a great experience movie-going experience this weekend by going to the Loew's theater in Journal Square. They were having a Film Noir weekend and showed classic films of the genre (Polanski's Chinatown, Kubric's The Killing, Hathaway's Niagra, and Dassain's Night and the City).
A magnificent vintage movie theater where you can see the films as they were originally intended to be shown. Foster Hirsch a professor of film and film noir expert was on hand to introduce each film with interesting comments and conducted a Q&A session afterwards.
They even have an organ that elevates and goes back into the floor with some excellent house organists providing entertainment before the films and in the interval between double bills. I recommend people try this experience the next time they have a program.

As for Newport, well I try not to go there but once in a while they have a film that I want to see and it is cheaper than going into NYC so I try to go during a quiet period which means not Friday or Saturday evening. However, the experience is often ruined by other patrons that don't have a clue how to behave.
I can't believe that they don't fix the hand-dryers in the men's bathroom. Only one is working; the others have been broken for over a year
