Lou Manzo?s running for Mayor of Jersey City!

Louis M. Manzo has spent his entire life in Jersey City and his entire career working to make our area a better place to live, work and raise a family.

Lou attended local city schools; St. Aloysius Grammar School and Hudson Catholic High School. He then graduated from Jersey City University and did post-graduate studies at Rutgers. Lou's education has focused on health and environmental issues and sparked his long career in public service.

Lou began working with the Jersey City Health Department and was instrumental in expanding city vaccination programs and protecting our health through eliminating environmental dangers that can cause grave illnesses, such as asbestos and lead contamination, rodent control and air quality. Lou was a leader in the fight to clean up the foul PJP landfill and to create an oasis from a landfill dump. That oasis became known as Liberty State Park and Lou's greatest reward has been that so few people remember when that magnificent park was a garbage dumping ground.

Lou's conviction that a planned garbage incinerator in Jersey City would adversely affect the health of Jersey City's children and lead to an increase in childhood asthma led to his decision to run for elective office. He was elected Freeholder and served from 1990 to 1993. Largely due to Lou's efforts, the incinerator project was dropped.

In 2003, Lou returned to serve the public and was elected to serve as the Assemblyman for the 31st district. Since going to Trenton, Lou has worked tirelessly in the areas of property tax reform, health initiatives and environmental clean-up. Lou has sponsored countless successful bills that protect our children, assist the elderly, preserve the environment and make our city a better place to live. Most recently, Lou has sparked the fight against crime and gangs among our young people through tough anti-gang measures and pre-gang prevention programs.

It's been Lou's personal mission to touch the daily lives of the public he serves. Accordingly, the door to his advocacy office is always open to anyone in need of assistance.

Political Stickers in Jersey City

Office of Louis Manzo
Mayoral Candidate

As a Mayoral candidate in the upcoming municipal election, I find it necessary to speak directly to the residents of downtown and other areas of our city in regard to an issue which causes me deep concern. Offensive stickers have begun to appear in public areas throughout the Ward E area as well as in some neighborhoods surrounding Journal Square in Ward C. Placed below these offensive postings are ?Manzo? stickers that could reasonably lead one to conclude that my campaign had somehow been responsible for the polluting of these neighborhoods with both of these political stickers.

I have served the people of Jersey City as your State Assemblyman for two terms in Trenton and in no way do I have a need to obtain name recognition in such an unseemly manner. In the 2004 special election for mayor my campaign was victimized by the same anonymous type postings of political stickers which displayed my name. At that time, these political stickers had been placed on all sorts of public property which neither I or my campaign had sanctioned. As in 2004 neither I nor my campaign condone or are responsible for the most recent defacing of public property with campaign these stickers. This is a political ploy which is being perpetrated by parties who insist upon hiding their identities. I look forward to seeing and speaking with as many of you as possible over the upcoming months about the serious issues which Jersey City will be facing over the coming four years.

Sincerely,
Louis Manzo
