Yet somehow he manages to hold that microphone, doesn't he? Amazing the things you can do when you find them important enough. Guess understanding how to use the tool that unites the world in information isn't much of a priority.

Not bothering to learn how to use a computer and limiting one's use of a keyboard because of the pain prolonged use causes are two separate things entirely.

Ummmmm, exactly what injuries sustained in a Vietnamese prison camp make him incapable of using a computer?

He seems to walk the walk and talk the talk, and I hope if he is elected Mayor he will look after my neighborhood as he has for the waterfront and e-district.

Unfortunately the "old boys" here make Karl Rove look like mild mannered pussy, and the nonpartisan electoral system overwhelmingly favors the incumbent. Steve might win a runoff against Healy but will have a hard time getting there past all the vote splitting of his "reform" constituency in a large field of challengers. I hope he can, but I'm a pessimist at heart. (I had nothing in the stock market)

Wow, hyperbolic much?

Got an actual comment? I'd LOVE to hear someone on JCList defend the HCDO!

Yeah, calling your over-exaggerations out is an actual comment. I know complex thought is sort of frowned upon on this website, but one looking for "actual comments" could do his credibility a world of good by refraining from bogus analogies.

HCDO is a joke organization of cronies and crooks. That fact doesn't give simps license to act the fool and go overboard solely for the sake of a provocative sound byte.

In my line of work I know many graphic designers, only a handfull would fall into the hipster category. Hipsters do graphic design work "as a hobby". And I don't think hyperopia automatically makes someone a hipster.

If those horn-rimmed glasses are paired with an ironic mustache, then you have a hipster...or a child molester from the 70s who forgot to pack extra plutonium.

What bugs me the most about hipsters is the faux "irony" bullshizzat. Like, the only way to be beautiful is to wear ugly clothes. The only way to be "cool" is to look like a geek. And the only way to seem edgy is to march in lockstep with the heaving right-wing bible-thumping flag-waving masses. It's so desperate. And so obvious.

I know it was a typo in the above post, but how awesome would it be if there was a state called "George"?

Do they, though? I can't swing a dead cat without hitting a half-dozen douchey graphic designer slash film-maker slash "artists" in horn rimmed glasses on their way to/from the Grove Street PATH station.

Yeah, there's a "fair and balanced" headline. And a video clip edited to start mid-sentence. The full sentence reads: ?He?s trying to suggest that a plumber is the guy he?s fighting for.?

Obama was *clearly* mocking the notion that Senator McCain is in this race to protect the interests of the average working class plumber (licensed or otherwise).

It's not Obama's fault that many of the McCain minions (Palin among them) don't understand the difference between income tax and business taxes. Just because somebody buys a truck and builds a business with a bottom line of over $250K does not make that business owner's personal income $250K. It's not that difficult a concept to grasp.

But of course you're unbiased. Riiiiiiiight. Thanks for yet another glimpse into the angry, desperate right.

"most of the media"? To what coverage are you specifically referring? All the coverage I saw, on multiple channels post-debate, were quick to point out that this was McCain's strongest performance of the three debates, and that it was Obama's weakest and most defensive.

And then, of course, the people weighed in with the instant-reaction poll numbers, in which Obama completely clobbered McCain.

Stop blaming the media for the fact that the public finds Obama to be more likable, intelligent, and empathetic, (not to mention less nasty and divisive) than McCain.

So it does annoy me that he hasn't been properly scrutinized by the media...i expect quite a few scandals and mistakes with an Obama presidency.

Just so all of you know I am not voting McCain or Obama. :)

Wow, this is what passes for polite, on-topic and constructive discourse?

Well your elected Ward councilperson is not Viola Richardson, the representative of Bergen/Lafayette, Ward F, which is south of Communipaw Avenue.

The City's website refers to your area as within the McGinley Square neighborhood, which is a part of Ward B, i.e. the West Side.

If you "would be" a member of community groups, they would be the West Bergen-Lincoln Park Neighborhood coalition, or the Monticello Community Develoment Corporation, both worthy and active organizations.

Not sure, but if your address is on the block you describe in this thread, you don't live in "Bergen/Lafayette" either.

You're on the wrong side of history.

The Republicans, like The Conservatives, have FAILED THIS NATION.

They are unfit to govern. Look no further than any front page of any newspaper for proof.

Tony Blair was/is a member of the Labour party, not the Conservatives, you plonker.

Exactly, which is why his spinelessness in taking orders from the Bush administration regarding Iraq was such a disappointment. Which cost him his political future and tarnished his legacy. Just as McCain's pandering to the base of the GOP and the Bush/Chenery neocons in advance of his latest presidential bid will cost him this election.

That's not what cost him his political future. There were several scandals that caused his downfall and he announced his retirement well in advance, he was not forced out as Gordon Brown seems like he soon will be (for issues not related to Iraq).
And how do you explain that the Conservatives are well ahead in the polls (their position was more pro-Bush than Blair's)?

Simply: when one party has been in power for too long, and has squandered the electorate's trust and disappointed them too many times, that party gets voted out. See: Nov. 4, 2008 as an example.
