A person driven to suicide is clearly not thinking about the consequences on other people's commute times... Its just possible she had bigger things on her mind.
I do agree that the train driver shouldn't have had to see this. I am always surprised by the value people put on a human life. This didn't even happen at peak time. I hope she gets help and feels better.

So it turns out it was a good thing after all. Its better the ex-mayor-thug got jumped on rather than an innocent person.
At least he is off the streets for a few days. He is going to make sure he does a back-ground check before he strikes next time.

The mini-cupcakes in Target are nice too and a very good price. They sometimes have cupcakes with a tart icing.... absolutely delicious.

What time/days are they open. I've planned to eat there twice and have found it closed. Its possible I went there the same days. I've been craving homestyle pierogies for days.

Really??? You sound happy that a little puppy got bitten. Its pretty obvious that Vigilante has his own agenda. He is concerned about himself and his own dog/s, so if you have something to say to him, you can limit it to him and his dogs. There are a lot of parents who have dogs as well, and we would like to keep our children AND our dogs safe. That sentiment doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.

I agree with the previous poster. My daughter started at Growing Tree II as an infant and stayed till she was 2.
We really liked the facility, especially the infant room and all the one to one attention she got there. I don't think she actually learnt much there, but for her age, I wasn't very concerned about that. It was most important to me that she got so much attention. She also developed good eating habits since all the children ate the same food and it was cooked fresh. When we got through the wait-list on River School (Warren Street), we transferred her over. I regretted that decision and I could see a vast difference in the two facilities. River School "looked" better, but it didn't compare in terms of attention given to my daughter. The classroom activities in both places are similar.

The same tax dollars which went towards retrieving the body out of the water and which will go towards the investigation and trial. It makes more sense to me that money gets spent to prevent crime than to clean up after the crime. And yeah, of course, I shouldn't forget to be thankful to the gang for being quiet about it. They were very kind.

Yes, that does make sense. But without the pole to hold on to, how are people expected to stand in the centre of the car? Anyway, the few times I rode the new train it wasn't crowded. I'll reserve judgement and wait to see how it fares when its packed.

Its presumptuous to club all pregnant women as invalids and as being in dire need of a seat. But there are some women who do need help. I rode the PATH to work till the last day and luckily was fine throughout. It was great when someone did offer me a seat, and without exception each time it was another woman who gave me a seat. The only time a man offered me a seat, it was a labourer who didn't speak English. I have to say I got some education about the PATH riders during my pregnancy.
I still do give my seat to a disabled person, except at 33rd street. I feel if someone is disabled and they needed a seat, they could wait for the next train instead of getting into a crowded one. On the flip side, for the non-disabled, if you do not want to offer your seat, its fine, but just make sure you do not push a pregant woman or jab her. That is just not acceptable! With the newly designed cars, why did they remove the center pole? We should've got more standing space and fewer seats and also some more poles to hold on to.

As per the wikipedia article, the Newport/Pavonia PATH station opened on August 2nd 1909. So it completed a 100 years 2 days ago. Wow!
Thanks for posting those links. I use this station everyday but had never thought to look it up before.

I have to say I agree with Crazy_Chester.
I do feel sorry for his family having to go through all this. But if he did commit suicide for having been caught in his illegal activities, then he does not deserve my sympathy. He robbed people of a chance to question him.

Her husband was outside with the cops. You're right, if the cops hadn't intervened maybe she could've killed herself. On the news, the husband was defending his wife and claimed that the cops didn't warn the woman to put the knife down as they said they did. It wasn't clear who had called the cops, even if it was the husband, he probably just wanted the situation to be brought under control, not that his wife end up being dead. Again, I reiterate, there just isn't enough information. And I am not saying the cops were wrong, but I do agree that there should've been alternative means to subdue her. For god's sake, someone died. Have some respect!

If it hadn't been for the unfortunate events of this last week, you would probably have had more sympathy with the woman who died. Its possible the cops were more aggressive as well for the same reason. Considering that she was mentally unstable and she sees two people break the door to get into her home, she might've been agitated. I don't know the extent of her disability but maybe she didn't register them as cops.
This story was on the news today morning. Her husband's story was very different from the cops version. Till more details are available, please show some consideration for a woman who lost her life.

Re: Video shows hit-and-run on Marin

I nearly got run down a few months back on the intersection of Marin and 1st. It was a black truck taking a left turn onto Marin coming down 1st. The driver actually revved up right when it was a few feet from me. Luckily I was able to rush to the sidewalk, but I was so shaken I couldn't take note of the vehicle/make. I only remember this monstrous truck looming in front of me. After that incident, I have been very cautious about crossing the street at Marin, generally taking the crosswalk at Shoprite instead. That road is especially bad. Even when I've driven down that road and stopped to let a pedestrian cross at the crosswalk before turning, I've got honked at. Really, what is the rush? Is this traffic to/from the tunnel?
Even though I appreciate all the effort in doling out tickets to the drivers who make that wrong turn into BJs parking lot, this road surely needs more attention. I wish Mr Torres a quick recovery and strength to his family.
