The A&P Fresh over by Best Buy sells 2 different types of firewood, they are stacked outside in the front, not sure its exactly what you need but its worth a shot. They also sell starter pieces inside (household cleaners aisle I believe).

PATH was suspended system wide last night as well, around 730. We went down in the 33rd street station and they were telling everyone to leave, putting up the chains and all. We were stuck in the city for a good 2 hours... Wasn't a complete waste, we got some decent Korean BBQ.

I am not really sure why this became linked up with a story involving an "exotic bird" in "Journal Square". Red tail Hawks are indigenous to North America and First and Erie are located Downtown.

Actually looks more like a Red Shouldered Hawk, but I am no expert, who knows. It was pretty fearless, I tried to get a little closer and as soon as I took a step toward it, it turned right at me and took 2 steps toward me.

I commute to Syosset everyday from JC, there is no easy/fun way to get it done. I drove for the first 4 months when I started this job... I nearly drove myself insane (no pun intended). I take the PATH to 33rd and then take the LIRR out here, it sucks, but it is sure to keep your sanity intact. Good luck to you my friend.

We are planning a pretty do-it-yourself wedding and want to get just cut flowers (vs. pre-made centerpieces) in JC.

I saw a few recos for the place on 1st and Jersey. Anyone ever used the place on Grove near the Bike Shop? Anthea is also recommended, but I'm not sure if they'd do just cut flowers.

The place on 1st and Jersey seems like a really good place, I live right near there and walk past there all the time, seems like they have some really nice stuff and fresh. The place on Grove next to the bike shop is a JOKE, don't go there. Thats all I got.

why is my post ridiculous? because of the existence of people using the legal system to get money out of others? or because i pointed it out?

I certainly doubt that some case proposed by a belligerent drunk, who was about to commit a CRIME that would endanger himself as well as the people of JC would ever hold up in court. Not to mention I am sure the two officers who profusely thanked TommyC would have backed him up.

I am bewildered by how many people in JC are so close-minded. Seriously, who gives a crap! Get over it! You don't like someone because they are Graphic Designers, film makers, artists, because they wear horn rim glasses, because they wear tight jeans. Honestly, everyone needs to get over themselves. Get on with your crappy job and your crappy style and leave everyone else alone.

Wait, I am a graphic designer with horned rimmed glasses. Only I adopted this look back in the nineties and it never left me, does that make me a hipster? Eeehhh who cares? Either you look like a Hipster a Yuppie a Slut or a Douchebag, everyone has got a style that they fit into. Lets just get on everybody then.

From reading the replies it seems there were only two parties, that were a problem not all of them. I dont think stopping every party all together is the right thing to do. Yes it does suck when a few mess up the fun for the majority just going to have a good time. I wouldnt see a problem with IF the parties continue to be a problem, having an officer present or at least patrol more between calls. There have already been enough places in this city shutdown because of the actions of a few people. The violence shouldnt be tolerated at all but ocasional violence is expected at large gatherings in urban areas. Maybe something should be done to prevent this from happening again but the parties should be able to continue.

Yeah, this sounds like a great idea, like it was said in an earlier post..... let the parties keep going until one of those shot isn't fire into the 'heavens', yet into some teenagers chest... Brilliant idea!!! I live a block from the Parish Hall and walk my dogs down Erie all the time, as a matter of fact I must have missed this incident by minutes. Every time these parties are thrown there is always a ton of people out in the street and on the sidewalks, and the next day there is always a ton of trash, actually it was still there this morning.... The church needs to take responsibility for cleaning up and/or hire security or something.

It doesn't matter where you are, our car was parked on First St. just east of Erie and they got us a couple of months ago. And don't think you are safe just because you don't have a soft top either, our car has that feature where if you put the key in the door lock and turn it backwards and hold it, it rolls down the windows. Well these guys figured out how to trigger that somehow by prying the lock. It rolls down the windows without setting off the alarm, so they just can just reach in and take whatever they want. Luckily for us we don't leave a thing in the car, so they got nothing.

How about being a gentleman. I stand the whole ride, even if there are seats available..... Honestly its really not that long of a ride no matter where you are coming from or going to. I hate seeing these 20 year old dudes in the morning, sitting there pretending to sleep so that they don't have to give up their seats.

I have been there a few times in the past month or so, usually for breakfast. I have to say the breakfast there is phenomenal, the Cubano is good (prefer the Cubano at La Conguita though), cant speak for much else though.

Garbage, garbage, garbage & meat

Ok, now I am sure this has been posted here before.... somewhere, but I just cant find it.

Is there anything that can be done about the loose trash that blankets our JC streets after garbage pickup? It is completely out of control, just the other day I was walking my 2 dogs when I turn around only to find Molly trailing behind me with a 20 oz. raw steak hanging from her mouth. I walk the dogs every morning and every night (and I do gather up their waste matter) and I really cant believe the amount of loose trash there is. Is it at all possible to have an extra trash collector follow behind the truck and scan the area for oddments? I am thinking about just going through my block (First between Erie and Manila) and picking up all the trash, and then just walking the dogs in a circle.

I live on First and Erie, this morning around 5 am I was awoken by a helicopter flying above my bedroom, I think it must have been a police helicopter considering there was a bright spotlight blaring through my window. Anyone have any info on this?
