I've taken Yoga with Jaime (Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday mornings) and I have to say she's awesome. She caters the class to the participants and I think she's actually the best yoga instructor I've had. I don't know but I think it's Vinyasa style and I'm am not good at yoga, but she's definitely showed me some poses I've never done. Afterwards, I'm totally refreshed and clear and ready to conquer the day. You have to try this class.

I went to this store a few weeks ago and got a beautiful antique file cabinet (mission style) for $25. I took it home and stripped it (it had black varnish on it) and there was beautiful cherry wood underneath. It was a GREAT buy. It looks like I spent over $100 bucks on the thing. The owner was super sweet. He gave us old clothes to lay in our car so that the varnish wouldn't ruin our trunk. He even tried to sand the varnish off of the thing when I told him I was going to strip it. They are legit and it's worth a browse every once and a blue. I'm not sure why we don't have more of these types of stores. This area needs another dollar store like I need a hole in my head.

PET GROOVE on West Side Avenue!

I was riding on West Side and I saw the cutest of shops, PET GROOVE. Finally! I can't believe that this area has gone on so long without one. They have grooming, puppies, kittens and food and supplies. I hate most stores on West Side and I don't want this one to go down with the dollar store and the many crappy mini marts. If you live in West Side and have a dog, please support this local business. It's located at Westside and Lexington on the East Side of the Street. I fell in love with a dapple doxie there. I hope they stay open!

I think that alot of those stores are egyptian and Harissa is moroccan. I get it from Citarella's at 9th Street and Sixth (right next to the Path). :)

Do you think it's against the Condo Rules for me to do a slide in the elevator shaft to the basement, so I don't have to go down there to get rid of my trash??? I'm so scared of the basement.
Was the resident crackhead evicted, arrested or what???[quote]
laundrybob wrote:
That happened on Tuesday in the middle of the day. It's because the basement door is rarely secured. Most people in the building avoid the laundry room and go to the West Side/Communipaw laundromat.

As far as your mom goes, best not to even mention the basement unless you want to say that Wes Craven lives in the building and he has built a set downstairs.

Laundry Bob.. did that crack head incident happen recently, or is that the crackhead incident you told me about previously? I got a washer for my apartment, so I only have to go down for trash.. but still. I already feel like it's a dungeon for the time of the plague where people were pilled up and torched after death... but that's just the impression I get from it.

Wow.. is there any way we can fix this shit before my mother visits this weekend? She's going to have a canniption (sic.). Also, for the Harrison Avenue folks, where should I have my guests park? Is there a secure garage or lot for overnight parking around the hood somewhere?

I think he was being sarcastic.. as in.. Renters, don't wait to buy.
I think that NYC and the surrounding area won't suffer as much as the rest of the country because creative financing was never popular here. In most places in the NYC area, you need 20% down to purchase. So, there's equity in most homes from the get go.. vs. Florida where people would receive 110% financing with an 5 year ARM. Also, our homes have not devalued.... so, we'll see. I say, business as usual in NYC.Quote:

Hey! I am your neighbor too! Let's do an owner's meeting together and take over the board. Who is on it and when are elections? I was on the board at my old building and I used to do coop and condo law as a profession. You're right about all of your complaints.. granted, I've only lived there for two weeks. So far, I can't tell when the developer ends and the management company begins. My suspicions are that the developer (who probably controls the board or is the board) hired RobinsOak who does nothing.. and the developer does it all themselves. I know that the Harveymobile was provided by the Developer. Although Harvey tells us to contact the office, the developer is much more responsive.
By the way, Bedbugs.. yep, that's right. I'm not a happy camper this week. Please send me a PM and we can talk this weekend, since I'll be holed up doing laundry in the dungeon to get rid of my new roommates.

Trustworthy Cleaning Lady in West Side?

Does anyone know of a trustworthy cleaning lady in the Lincoln Park Area. How do you know she's trustworthy? Is she someone who can have a key to your apartment? Price, details, etc. I have no time to clean my apartment/hotel room myself.

Can someone please tell me the exact boundaries of the Journal Square Area???Quote:

aldencal wrote:
Welcome to the board Garfield!

Historically (late 80?s to early 90?s) that section of Journal Square was pretty rough.

Although since then it?s progressively been getting much better. The area is very culturally and socially diverse. With all the new young professionals moving into the area as well as the new residential development around the Square the anticipation is that it will be the next ?boom? for Jersey City.

That being said, I would say a fair comparison for walking from the Square to Corbin is similar to walking from Grove to 5th and Jersey Ave. It?s obviously not as safe as walking inside a gated community, but it is relatively safe for a metropolitan area.

Regarding your car, that area is generally safe and if my memory serves me correctly Corbin is a really wide street, therefore you shouldn?t have to worry about your car being side swiped. Just don?t leave your navigation in the car (that?ll get stolen anywhere you park).

I normally end most of my ?Jersey City insight? posts with this caveat?I?m born, raised, educated and still live in Jersey City. I?ve seen this place go through transition. It?s so much better now than it was when I was growing up.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Forgot something.. people like you moving into the neighborhood make it a safer place. Move in and encourage your friends to do the same. Don't let crime win over what you want, a fab place! Quote:

In a few years, you'll be one of the smart ones that talks about how dangerous it used to be and how cheap you got this apartment for. Just be an intelligent person. You could be robbed in Kansas if you act like an idiot. I don't think that there are all out gang street wars in the Heights, Jsq or downtown JC. So, that's my two cents.
