Corinne Wahl, she works out of her home near Park and 2nd in Hoboken. She's excellent, I used to have a dog walking business and a lot of my clients used her. I've seen her fix some terrible work by other groomers on yorkies, bearded collies, and everything in between. She even took on my anxious and none too cooperative pit bull once when he needed a bath badly and i just couldn't do it at home. Her number is 201-610-9527.

Cheek out 302 Monroe St. in hoboken. It's a shipping center in front but there's a back room they rent for parties and events. We had our daughter's 1st bday party here and it was great. We brought our own food and decorations and they were very helpful and accommodating. They have plenty of seating and tables (mostly pub height, though, with some benches around the edge of the room). Parking can be rough if a lot of guests are driving, but there's a lot about 2 blocks away and the light rail is very close. We had our party on a Sunday afternoon so parking wasn't too bad. Definitely within your budget.

I know, struck me as an odd name at first, too. But it's the name of one of their rolled up pastries. Seriously, try it sometime. I'm moving next week and will really miss their food and treats.

The veggie burger at o'connell's kicks ass. It's full of freshly prepared shredded veggies, not some frozen patty. Also check out the cinnamon snail food truck, you can follow them on facebook and twitter. Usually in Hoboken from 9am-3pm fri-sun, around 1st/Sinatra. All vegan organic menu including really tasty and inventive vegan doughnuts. I'm not even vegetarian, I just really love their food.

Check out Kearny, one town over bordering JC. I left a big, nice (but not fancy) 1 BR in a pre-war elevator building about 3 years ago that I was paying $750 for. It's safe and pretty convenient in terms of highway access and buses to NYC.

The closest beach to my knowledge where dogs are allowed during the summer season is the inlet side of Sandy Hook, across the road from the ocean side beach. There are no amenities, but lots of room for the dogs to splash around.

Re: Diaper service recommendations?

I promise you it's not as gruesome as you might imagine. And I don't use cloth because I have an overabundance of time--I'm a busy working mother who uses cloth because it's economical, better for the environment, and because my kid has had no diaper rash while wearing them (uinlike when she wore disposables). I also think they are cute :) I've never, not once, had a poop blowout while using my fuzzis (again, unlike my experience w/disposables) and I certainly haven't had to throw any away. They clean up beautifully and on the rare occasion there is a stain left, I leave it for an hour in the sun and it's gone.

For short trips and daycare cloth should pose no problem, especially with the user friendly pocket style diapers. I know lots of cloth diapering moms who use them @ daycare. For longer trips disposables do make more sense. I'm dreading an upcoming vacation where we'll be using disposables, and I have my diaper rash cream ready!

I searched looong and hard for a diaper service that served our area and came to the conclusion that there was none. I know there are some in NYC, but not here. I'm actually glad that I didn't find one, though. I chose to use FuzziBunz One Size pocket diapers and launder them myself. I've been using them on my now 8 month old daughter since she was 8 weeks old (the One Size diapers are a bit too bulky on newborns so I used disposables for the first 8 weeks). I think they worked out better than if we had used prefolds with a cover, as we would have had to do with a service since they only provide prefolds. The Fuzzis are very easy to clean, their customer service is great, and even my husband figured out how to use them :) They also save us a ton of money over disposables. I'm not sure I would have gone this route if we didn't have a washer/dryer in our unit, but I know several women who use cloth diapers and don't have their own washer/dryer so it is possible. Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

For the record, the JCMoms Meetup requirement is to attend 1 event every 60 days, and if you can't do so to advise the organizers. I am a busy working mom and I more than meet the requirement. I appreciate the rule because it discourages lurking and prevents the group from being too clique-ish or dominated by a handful of moms. There is no requirement re: online posting and the annual dues are $25, prorated if you join later in the year. The group has really helped me make friends and has made raising my now 8 month old daughter so much easier and more enjoyable than if I hadn't joined. It's not for everybody, nothing is, but for me it has been a lifesaver.

Those buildings are right on the Hoboken/JC border, but they definitely have Jersey City addresses. There is a Hoboken Fire station across the street, but when the fire alarms go off in either building JCFD answers the call.
